strange configuration that somehow blocks firmware update

Post by mshiels »

I have a big plex box at 192.168.127.20
Just happens to be a multi-network card device so I stuck the 4 HDHomeRun Duo's on a seperate link to just keep them off the network.
They are all in 1921.68.130.X

I have routing setup in the plex box (it's Windows 2012 R2 Server) and from othe rmachines on the 192.168.127.x network I can ping and even bring up the Web ui fine, so the routing is working ok.

BUT the darn boxes won't check for firmware updates etc.

The DHCP server is publishing
Routing 192.168.130.1 (which is the plex box)
Dns 192.168.127.1 (EdgeRouterX that does all our heavy lifting)

which should work fine, but maybe the DNs is required to be inside the subnet?

To get an update to work I have to disconnect them from the server and get them onto the normal network. I just figured hiding them would help against anything interfering with traffic load etc.

Seems like there is a glitch in the routing table on the Plex Box. The HDHR boxes are indeed accessible inside but they have no access to the Internet.
