HELP! MiBox 3 US Updated Android 9 ... Wrecked
My MiBNox 3 US updated to Android 9 today and is unwatchable! The video is breaking up on every channel. Pixelating and jumping. Restarted. Not usable at all. Please help! Thanks.
Re: HELP! MiBox 3 US Updated Android 9 ... Wrecked
I don't think that chipset has enough power to run software decoding. Pity.

Yeah, every firmware release by Xiaomi on this device makes it worse and worse. There is nothing you can do to prevent it from update itself.

Can we have you enable the HDHR app diagnostic data? We can use that to create a temporary blacklist for hardware decoding on MiBox 3 with Android 9.Thunderthud wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 4:46 pm My MiBNox 3 US updated to Android 9 today and is unwatchable! Re: HELP! MiBox 3 US Updated Android 9 ... Wrecked
I updated my MiBox 3 today. The AVC channels look fine but MPEG-2 channels are horrible. Plex plays live TV smoothly if I force it to transcode so I'll just use that until this is figured out.

Can't SiliconDust get in touch with AmLogic to help them resolve this? It seems majority of the Android TV boxes, including the latest Google TV, are using AmLogic SoC. With current trend, soon, HDHR will have to totally rely upon software decoders for all decoding. Instead of blacklisting, you will have switch over to whitelist

This appears to be a problem with the Android 9 implementation, since it worked just fine with Oreo (Android 8), prior to Xiaomi's update.foxbat121 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 5:28 am Can't SiliconDust get in touch with AmLogic to help them resolve this? Re: HELP! MiBox 3 US Updated Android 9 ... Wrecked
Not related to Android 9 at all. The best example is TiVo Stream. IIRC, it was released on Android 9 and worked fine for MPEG2 until a recent update which ended up the same as your Mi Box 3.
Typically when a new firmware is updated (especially a new major version of OS release), manufacturers will update the SoC drivers as well. That's where the problem started, the hardware decoder of MPEG2 broke. But these days, other than TV viewing, there are very little usage of MPEG2. So, not surprised that they did very little testing on MPEG2 decoding before release.

Any word on when this blacklist may be implemented? ThanksNedS wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 12:08 pmCan we have you enable the HDHR app diagnostic data? Re: HELP! MiBox 3 US Updated Android 9 ... Wrecked
I am experiencing the same problem. How do I get the blacklist implemented on my tuner?
Re: HELP! MiBox 3 US Updated Android 9 ... Wrecked
You don't. SD needs to implement it (blacklist it so that HDHR app can use software decoding instead of hardware) and update the app. As I suspected earlier in this thread, I'm not sure the SoC in this thing is fast enough to handle software decoding though.

Sorry, Don't know how I can "Blacklist It" , as you mention. Can you document the steps? Thanks!foxbat121 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 6:08 amYou don't.
