What kind of device are you watching on?
Watching on a PC Windows 10 and also a laptop Windows 10. Both exhibit the visual impaired stream on NBC programs. Playback through the HDHomerun DVR app.
Does anything happen when you press the SAP button? The wrong audio track is probably being set as default from the broadcaster, or our app might be ignoring that metadata, or something to that extent. Both the correct and the alternative audio tracks should be present, though.
I can't tell that the SAP button does anything. I click it it turns green but when I bring it back up its white again. Either way, the sound is still there.
In the top left corner, does it show the language and the channel count changing when you click SAP? For example, on my NBC, it switches between Eng 5.1 Audio and Spa Stereo Audio. It takes about 5-10 seconds for the audio to actually changing after selecting SAP.
When I click on SAP the top left shows ENG 5.1 Audio but never anything about SAP
Can you upload one of the affected recordings, preferably a smaller one, somewhere (Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive, etc.) and then email a link to it and a link to this thread to support at silicondust dot com? We'd like to take a look at it.

Your NBC affiliate is the problem. They've got a 5.1 audio track set up, but instead of actually being proper 5.1, they've got the stereo mix in the L and R channels, then the descriptive video service in the center channel (the surrounds are silent). As you might guess, this is not how it's supposed to be done - they should have the descriptive video service set up as a completely separate track so you can switch to it using the SAP button, and they should either be using the full 5.1 mix from NBC or have their audio set to stereo and use the stereo mix. You'll have to contact the station and try to get them to fix it. It looks like the chief engineer is Ed Elser and his email address is email@example.com, per their FCC file. Good luck!
