IF THEY EVER COME OUT....I'll buy 2 of the Prime 6 units. I currently have 2 of the Prime 3 tuners but are acting up - old. I definitely need to upgrade and hope the new hardware addresses DRM issues as well. I depend on these for my Plex DVR setup. I don't have good reception for OTA antennas which would only be local channels anyway. I don't know what the delay is releasing these tuners, and why they just completely stopped making the Prime 3's, but there's still a buyers market for these tuners that Silicon Dust hopefully will make available soon. It's been 2 years talking about releasing this Prime 6, hope it makes it to consumers.
The 3 tuner supplies ran out, and since the hardware changed it has to go through CableLabs certification. But you mention recording DRM is important but yet you say you use Plex DVR, you know if SD gets approval for DRM recording, Plex still will not be able to view those recordings.... nor will it allow viewing DRM. that would be locked to only SDs APP on approved hardware
Recording DRM isn't the issue, playing Live DRM channels on all devices is. The 3 tuner I have works but at times doesn't..buggy. I luckily only have a couple, Premiums like HBO, so it's not to bad to deal with.

There are no DRM issues on the hardware side, live TV or recording. It's always a software issue with the app.

So Ned, you're saying that the problem lies in playback on HDHomeRun's own app, because that's what is having issues at times playing live DRM channels like HBO?

Correct, it's ether in the client app or the DVR software. Is your DVR software running the latest version? You can check http://my.hdhomerun.com and look for the X mark or a check mark next to the DVR version number.

Yes and Yes, hence Apple TV owners are “Desperate” for an SD approved app and preferably SD original...not an approved 3rd party like InstaTV.

As far as I know, we're still aiming for a 2019 release.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm looking forward to Lon Seidman's annual interview with Ted Head at CES 2020 so we can hear Ted promise the Prime 6 sometime in late 2020.

Why stop at 2020. it'll be great promotional announcement for 2021 also

By 2021 cablecards may not even exist. Maybe that's what their holding out for. All the new gadgets they are putting out, this one Prime 6 is the only thing in 3 years they just can't get across the finish line on..ugggg

I've been planning to buy 2, to replace the 2 Primes I currently have. But, I'm still using WMC, so, that may not be a viable long term plan. I was an early supporter of the DVR project, but WMC is just so easy and has been super-stable for us since Windows 7 and solid-state OS drives. Obviously, at some point, it will end. If it came out today, I'd still buy two.

I actually have 2 of the 3 tuner Primes as well, but they are not acting normal since I added the 2nd one. Not sure if it's cabling, not enough boost to support 2 of them. I'd like to just go with one box having all 6 tuners on it. I've also been experimenting with the Channels DVR service and it works great, smaller file sizes, and can pick up my 2 tuners just fine as well as having the TV Everywhere tuner as a streaming tuner I can also record from giving me an unlimited number of virtual tuners for channels they support on TV Everywhere. I have been against going only streaming services because I can't store on my server but if more services pop up like TV Everywhere, the need for a cablecard tuner will be gone forever.

I'm pretty sure it's been in development for much longer than 3 years. Probably 5+ now... They likely changed the design, but it's been something that been around a while now. It's been over 4 years since they launched the DVR kickstarter.
