I tried to switch CC to ON (Subtitles : on) in Sydney, Australia but the subtitle does not appear on all channels.
Is CC feature available in Australia ? If not, are there any workarounds ?

Thanks and regards,
Ari
As stated in this thread, CC is closed captions (US/Canada) DVB would need subtitle support which eventually will come but will require the new UI.

I read this thread, but still confused...

So does the HDHOMERUN app support viewing CC data or not?

Shows that I record with the app do have the data as the CC text displays pefectly in external apps like VLC, just nothing in the app itself.

In does in US/Canada which is what "CC" usually refers to ... most other regions use "subtitles" (not CC) and the official app does not support subtitles.

Thanks,

I wonder when this will become available? I have come from plex (they dumped EPG for AUS) and am looking for a better solution that allows me to use my HDHomeRun to record TV shows and capture the subtitles that are provided. I know if I watch the stream via VLC I can get them, but I can't seem to record and then have then shown on playback, are there any other 3rd party solutions that can do this yet? I am Australia and need the DVB subtitles (not CC).

Tvheadend supports SD HDHR tuners, and has no problem recording streams with DVB subtitles. Kodi has a good client for accessing Tvheadend servers.

EyeTV for Mac supports recording and playing the DVB subtitles.

Note: You need to run an older version of EyeTV as they have regrettably removed support for HDHomeRun tuners from their more recent versions. :(

Windows Media Centre also supports DVB subtitles. (Still the best ever Media Centre app in my opinion.)

However SiliconDust have been promising DVB subtitles support since at least Jan 2019 and it is still not yet here in their own app. :(

VLC and Kodi both support DVB subtitles as well.

If DVB is recorded in the stream and supported by Kodi, you could record in HDHR and watch in Kodi.

I'm in the US, and I usually use Kodi to watch HDHR recordings. Kodi has one of the best video player UIs, and I find it worth the extra steps to change apps. I like having the CC's on so I can watch at a low volume and not worry about missing quiet dialogue, and Kodi can do that without the black text background. Kodi also shows how much time is left, and what time the show ends.

I agree with bdbauer. Kodi playback with captions is very good. But the one thing I cannot get Kodi to do is to default to CC being on. For every recording I play, I have to turn CC back on. I've looked all over and cannot find a way for it to default to CC on.

You can set CC to be on by default by going to the bottom of the subtitles settings screen and clicking on "set as default for all media" while subtitles are enabled.

That's the problem. That won't work for me, for some reason. It's not remembering that I told it set it on as default. I'm using Leia (v18.3). I'm playing recordings from the unofficial HDHR PVR add-on. I brought this up in that thread here on the SD forums and was told that playback is a Kodi thing, not an add-on thing. But nobody else seems to be experiencing the same issue that I am. Turning CC on for every recording is not a show-stopper for me, it's just very annoying.

That hasn't worked for me (with official app) since 12 or 13 (F or G)... I haven't looked at such with unofficial.

I forgot all about the official app. I haven't used that one in years.
