Shutdown

Post by aslg » Tue Jul 09, 2019 5:04 pm

How do you shutdown the Scribe Quatro? Considering it has a running hard drive I am reluctant to just power it off.

Thanks!

You'll get a year added once the kickstarter year starts counting down (so 2 years total). Right now that's "paused" for Kickstarter backers and early-access users, which is extending the subscription even more. I think that's due to the DRM stuff not being added, but I'm not 100% sure on the exact conditions needed for the kickstarter years to start counting down.

It's safe for the unit itself to just go ahead and pull the plug. Of course, if you are in the middle of a recording, that recording is obviously going to be incomplete, but the DVR software will detect problems with that recording and will mark a given program to re-record the next time it's plugged in. You might also interrupt someone watching live TV if the DVR is using the SCRIBE for live TV buffer, but relaunching the app will fix that as well.

Can programs recorded on Servio be copied to local storage (specifically to an iPad) and watched when off-line using the HDHomeRun App? For example when we're traveling on an airplane.

You would download by http... you would find the link from the recorded_files.json retrieved from the device

However how well it it plays on such device is usually dependent on what you use to play it. (its a TS and will most likely use mpeg2 and ac3 as codecs)

I'm curious if the MCEBuddy people will put something together to automate transferring recordings to a PC and processing them for use elsewhere. Seems like a natural extension of what it already does.

MceBuddy already has the option to copy file and process the copied file. I am sure if they were to make the recordings available MCEBUDDY can process them.

As I understand it, MCEBuddy can only process recordings when there are visible as a filesystem, whether that's a local drive or a network share or something like that. SCRIBE and SERVIO don't support that, but they do have the recorded_files.json that lists all the recordings, and HTTP URLs to retrieve them. MCEBuddy could use that to download a recording, then process it using the existing system.

Too bad I had to wait until the Lon interview came out to get this answer.
Did you get an answer on Lon's Video? I must have missed it. What was the answer?

That post was posted in January.... The answer in that video to my question was answered but was innacurate.

Off-topic posts have been removed.

Since SERVIO and SCRIBE are now available and are no longer "future products", I am going to close this thread. Any questions and discussions of the SCRIBE and SERVIO models should now take place in the HDHomeRun Hardware forum.
