SD has mentioned in the past, that DRM recording will be release at the time of the Prime 6. So with that said, I would say before January 1 2020

One thing I learned from SiliconDust is you don't talk about DRM, competing products or how you really feel about their products. I tried to offer my own opinions about their DVR and it was removed due to Forum Rules.

I am a kickstarter backer too. How many years have you received free DVR guide service from SD? From my perspective, well worth the kickstarter.

I have not received one iota of guide data from Silicondust. I am still using Windows 7 Media Center, so my guide data (flawed as it is) comes completely free-of-charge from Microsoft.

Basically, SD's hands are tied, legally, by the cable industry. The cable cabal is loath to certify any more cablecard devices that aren't cable operators themselves. The only reason they approved SD's original Prime devices was merely to prove to the government that legally, they weren't really a monopoly industry syndicate engaged in price-fixing and market manipulation. I want SD to stick around and keep making great devices. So I appreciate them not getting sued into oblivion and not cutting corners on DRM.

Are you serious? Yes, there has been tremendous resistance from the cable companies against CableCARD... but the FCC basically FORCED the cable companies to support CableCARD quite a few years ago.

Some of this progress has been reversed under the "leadership" of Ajit Pai since Trump became POTUS, but certification of new CableCARD devices have not been hindered. SD's HDHomeRun PRIME devices were certified LONG before Trump became POTUS. Nothing about CableCARD has changed since Trump became POTUS.

While the data is not free for Microsoft, it is currently free for ME... and there are ways for me to get my guide data from other sources (for which I must pay a few dollars per year) while still using Windows 7 Media Center.

Currently, I cannot watch DRM recordings in Media Center that are encoded in H.264.

The whole point of this thread is... WHEN WILL SILICONDUST PROVIDE THE ABILITY TO RECORD DRM SHOWS?

I know all about the driver issue. The issue was that certain video drivers couldn't handle H.264 at all... even on non-DRM content. As it turned out, nobody could play DRM H.264 in Media Center, no matter what drivers they were using.

Does anyone have any info about when HDHR DVR will record DRM channels?

I actually have some non-DRM, h.264 recordings that were shared from the old Green Button website. They play fine on my hardware.

It is ONLY DRM H.264 content that will not play on ANY hardware/driver combination in Windows 7 Media Center.

As stated, DRM recording is expected by the end of the year... NO FURTHER INFORMATION WILL BE GIVEN UNTIL IT IS OUT !!!!! (other than perhaps information of further delays if that goal isn't met but don't expect such status update until 1/1/2020 unless it comes out).

I have no problem with DRM protected H264 from my provider with WMC with the PC that recorded it, or xbox 360/ceton echo extenders connected to that pc.

Very interesting. I have three H.264 recordings (non-DRM) that play fine on my PC, and all of my XBOX-360 extenders.

None of my DRM (copy-protected) recordings that are encoded with H.264 will play on any of them.

If you read the forums at thegreenbutton.tv, you will find that nobody was able to play copy-protected (DRM) H.264 files on ANY hardware.

If yours work, please show proof...

1) The file is encoded as H.264
2) It is DRM protected
3) show video proof that they actually play on your hardware.
