I have a question about the Servio, and I think your post is going to draw the right crowd.

I have an HDHR Prime with cable card. Devices on my network with HDCP can stream content protected channels, other devices cannot.

Questions:

1) Will the Servio be able to DVR protected channels using my HDHR Prime?

2) Will all programs recorded onto my Servio be streamable to all devices on my network, or will programs from protected channels be limited to streaming from devices with HDCP?

Thanks!

Recording DRM protected channels is not supported at this time. Once DRM recording support is available in general, it will be available on the Servio.

Playback requirements for DRM recorded content will be the same as they are for live DRM content.

I am actually surprised about the lack of chatter about the fact a committed date was set and pre-orders are being made on these products. Yes I agree, they are not for everyone but the impact these products could have to the general non-techy public because of the plug and play no fuss could put SD at a level to compete and surpass Amazon's product for the fact it can be used to record cable also

Saw these new product on https://shop.silicondust.com/shop/

Q: Are these new Scribe and Servio added to Router along with existing HDHomeRun Prime with DVR service?

Diagram looks simple but doesn't cover existing HDHomeRun Prime/Connect.

Thanks,
Tim

The Scribe has OTA tuners built in and can be used on its own or with other HDHomeRun devices. Servio does not have tuners built in and requires another HDHomeRun device. Either way, all devices would connect to your router/switch.

Not all cable providers use DRM restrictions on all or most of their channels. For example, Comcast keeps most of their channels unrestricted. Mainly movie channels (HBO, Showtime, etc) are locked down and require DRM support.

unfortunately, Spectrum in our area DRMs almost everything but the major networks, some Spanish-language channels (even some pay ones), and that channel that generally plays one of: animated disney movies, harry potter movies, or the 700 club. so, lack of DRM support is a deal breaker.
