New Forum "UI"

Post by Ken.F » Tue May 28, 2019 8:38 am

I know this post doesn't belong here but it doesn't belong anywhere else either.

The forum used to have a little button labeled "view first unread" or something like that next to topics with unread posts. I used that feature all the time but it's gone now. Can someone please put it back?

There are a number of buttons at the top (in the black bar) of the form "Your Posts", "New posts", "Unread posts", .... Do they meet your need (even if different)?

I concur. I used this all the time, in fact every single time I went to a topic I was interested in.

The unread button in the black bar gives every unread post in every topic, completely useless as I don't follow all topics.

I don't think it worked that way previously. I just noticed the mouse cursor turned to a hand when I was trying to figure out where the old icon went.

Also, I know multiple people were asking for the name of the quoted person to show in the quotes, and it looks like that's also present in this new version.

I am glad there is still a way, but this is what I have called in previous posts the whack-a-mole UI design. That is the need to go around clicking or attempting to click on things to see if there are non-obvious buttons or active text to find commands. It's all the rage these days, despite it being terrible usability. It is particularly bad when there is so much white space, as is the case in this forum, where an obvious button might reside, and did reside.

Now I know SD is using someone else's software for the forum and its not really in their control, but none-the-less I hope SD does not use this terrible usability feature in their own software.
