I like the open format we have here but it's disappointing that information about SiliconDust is found elsewhere when we are talking about that very topic here with employees.
I've pointed this out many times how they refuse to tell us anything on the forum but news/info is always decimated elsewhere every single time.

Its beyond absurd.

I think you mean disseminated. Decimate means to reduce by 10%, although modern usage seems to have taken on the meaning of "to wipe out". Disseminate means to be spread out or to scatter widely.

Of course, when read with a cynical approach, I can see how "decimate" could be used in this context ...

Auto-correct. I typed that one on my phone, but thanks for the English lesson.

There are genuine reason they shouldn't use a forum to reveal product news first.

However there is nothing stopping them posting to the forum when a press release goes live, so simulataneously posting some info here once they are shwing something at CES.

It's far more than just product. They could have explained countless times why the Prime 3 wasn't available. But no, they only divulge after someone rages on them on Twitter.

It's been like this forever, choosing to tell their dedicated user base almost nothing. Strikes me as very unappreciative of their hard core users.

I don't know exactly how things go down at CES, but imagine this:

You're running a company that doesn't do new products that often, so this is a big deal. You're tired, working out of a hotel room, putting the finishing touches on PR materials and other documents relating to a major product announcement. You're also stressing out because you know you're going to take heat about the last product you announced that hasn't even been released yet. Your whole world for the week (probably longer) has been CES. At the same time you're still running things at the company, dealing with on-going issues, and all while trying to keep your head above water. You even stress about the name of the products and wonder if you should change it to one of the other ideas.

It's easy to think that everyone else has their eyes deadlocked on CES as well. It's easy to forget that the average customer, even some regular posters here, either don't know about CES or don't really pay it much attention. You're focused on the product announcements, the meetings with suppliers, potential business partners, and everything else that's happening. So when you finally announce the big product, and it's all said and done and you're back at your hotel room, and all you want to do is finally get some sleep, what happens? Your mom calls you and asks why the heck you didn't tell her about the new product. She had to hear about it on her favorite podcast. She gave *birth* to you, and you couldn't take a few minutes to give her the heads up? Oops.

Also, your forum regulars.

Is the above post an explanation claiming that they forgot to tell us what happened to the Prime 3? Is that really what you're saying here? They forgot?

Ned, I clearly differentiated between new product announcements vs. divulging other sorts of details. It's been like this forever around here (although you've only been here a month so wouldn't know it). My comments were in regard to why they couldn't simply explain about the Prime 3 / Prime 6 which has been a hot topic in this forum. Instead, they choose to tell us absolutely nothing for over 6 months, but then feel compelled to finally explain the Prime 3 discontinuation while responding to some hot head on Twitter.

You'd think that SD would value a user community that cares about their products so much as to visit the forums on a daily basis and gives them a great feedback loop on all things HDHomerun, but you'd never know it based on their actions.

Let me put it this way:

In an alternative universe without Premium TV or any other new HDHomeRun products, the Prime 6 wouldn't be coming out any faster.

Instead of talking about those new products, another thread has been detailed by wild speculation and FUD. Some criticism is fair (a lot of companies wouldn't allow any criticism -at all- on their forums), but let's stop derailing unrelated threads, okay?
Well how the heck do you advertise a Prime 6 tuner at last years CES fail to deliver it and run out of Prime 3 that sure is some poor planning.
Maybe it was poor planning (before my time). That still doesn't mean the Prime 6's release date has anything to do with these other products.

What some tech blogger says doesn't suddenly become fact. Maybe they got the wrong impression from their conversation or drew their own conclusions, or who knows what, but there's no way that anyone from SiliconDust told them that the Prime 6 was delayed because of other products. I can imagine they kept being bombarded by "where's the Prime 6" questions, and they were constantly trying to steer the conversations back to the new products they just released.

Ahem:
https://youtu.be/zHlHvhaXqz8?t=1066
"some of the things that got in front of it are now done and passed and we can now reshift that focus".

Ned, as one tech professional to another, if you really are tech support, stick to tech support and leave community management to someone else. If you are actually community management (someone who deals with non-tech customer complaints and moderates forums) kindly take the attitude down a notch. It doesn't help SiliconDust when a representative acts like its customer are crazy or being unreasonable about wanting information about products that are six months late (at least because the DVR DRM has been "soon" for over three years). It's obvious to everyone that SiliconDust has limited resources and the Prime6 got put on the backburner, so stop acting like we're crazy or stupid for thinking that when your CEO just confirmed that reality.
