Thank You NYPlayer and SIGNCARVER Purchased the Channels app on sale, works fine no DRM but AMZ still not supporting anyway. Grid guide also and if you set your favorites channel access is quick. DVR is an option though....
What was the sale price? I'm thinking about dropping the $25 for it since the new Fire 4K remote is worth the workaround for now. It's unfortunate SD doesn't address these issues more quickly. Still running an August version that has frame stutter on the FTV pendant and was never addressed. I get the 4Ks and find out the app barely works with it. At this point they need to fix it or remove FTV from the device list.

I am using the FireTV 4K more than the Shield lately .. It just has better quality and upscaling... Plus I prefer the Interface for Viewing my streaming services as it brings them all together.... We dropped HBO from Cable and subscribed to the Prime HBO channel... so I really do not need DRM... got tired of waiting for SD DRM... I purchased the Channels DVR for a year... I will probably wind up dropping the HDHomeRun DVR.

Having the same issues as "ericfrederickson"

"except for commercials. When most commercials started playing the green screen flicker problem occurred. When back to live action, it went away. After a few hours of this, however, the app would lock up and not work, requiring a power cycle of the Fire Stick to work again."

Any ideas silicon dust?

It looks like the MPEG2 decoder in the FireTV Stick 4k is a bit broken.

We will file a bug with Amazon and are looking into the possibility of decoding MPEG2 in software to make it work.

Nick
Any update to this? I'm trying to use the firetv exclusively but i can't until this is fixed one way or another.

Debating on starting a new thread because I'm having different issues with the FTV4K. I currently have 4 different FTV devices in my house the only ones that seem to work normally with the HDHR app is the original FTV box with the built in USB and Ethernet ports and the pendant 4K device. A current gen FTV stick gets a lot of pixelation and other issues when watching certain channels. That one is one a seldom used TV right now so I'm not too concerned with it. All of my FTV devices are connected via ethernet. On to the main issue...

HDHR on the FTV4K has been dropping right out of the app on some channels. Don't have a complete list at this moment but several of the HBOs for sure. Out of like 6 HBO channels that were working just fine on other devices only 1 HBO works with any consistency on the FTV4K. I bought this one so I could get the remote that controls volume and power for the TV. 99.9% of the time I'm using the FTV with this TV (the main TV in the house). Once in a great while do we switch to play video games or an actual disc.

If this doesn't get fixed within a few months I'll probably not renew with HDHR DVR, start selling off my FTV's, getting Roku's and running Emby or Plex (already have PlexPass). I have to update my DVR PC next year anyway since it's still on Windows 7. Plus with Roku's you can use everything including Vudu and Youtube.

I have been struggling with this as well. In my case I can't get a stream to work longer than about 7 hours even transcoding to H.264 through my Emby server. I am still testing, but so far it has been frustrating. I also have a Fire TV 2nd Gen box that I plan to hook back up to test with tonight. It definitely works better transcoding to H.264 but so far I've had the stream freeze or flat out fail back to the FireOS home screen every time when using the 4K Stick while playing MPEG2 or H.264. With MPEG2 I have to reboot the 4K Stick to get channels to play again. With H.264 I can just start watching a channel again.

How long do you have the channel play before the fail? Does it take roughly 7 hours to do so?

I had one stop after 8 hours according to the HDHR logs last night it looks like. Those are the only 2 data points I have really. I will try and run some more tests tonight. I have 3 of the 4K Sticks to test with. I did have one freeze after 3 hours but both my Emby Server dashboard and the Tuner showed it as still streaming but the video on the stick was frozen. I am not sure if the same thing happened in the other 7 and 8 hour case above. I am basing those off logs alone without physically being there to check.

They fixed hardware decoding MPEG2 with the latest update... no more green screens. Now all it needs is DRM playback.

That is great news. I will have to try it out. My other issue seems to be related to Emby. The stream will freeze but the Tuner and Emby Dashboard both show it still going. I have to click near the end of the progress bar to get it going. If I don't it eventually gives up. It is almost like it is randomly pausing for some reason.

Well not such luck overnight with the latest update using the native HDHR app for Fire TV or Direct Streaming through Emby. Neither was still going this morning. It looks like the longest one last about 5 hours. The 4K Stick running the native HDHR app is doing the same thing this morning. It won't play any channels now until I reboot it. The Tuner logs say it is streaming but the screen is black and it goes back to the Fire TV home screen after a few seconds. I will try transcoding through Emby instead of playing directly again.

Edit: an emby stream lasted a little over 7 hours today transcoding to h264 with the latest FireOS. Another stick running the native HDHR app only lasted a little over 1 hour this morning. A Fire TV 2nd Gen and a Windows 7 laptop running the native HDHR app both appear to be running still.

Edit: I asked Amazon to pull logs from the Fire TV devices that I have been testing on to see if there's anything there that can help.

They meaning Amazon or Silicon Dust? Just wondering if I should hook the 4K stick back up and try it again. I was thinking about returning this stick.

No one else has had issues with the stream stopping after an hour or 2? Mine still does even after the Amazon update and I have to reboot the stick to be able to play any channels. My Fire TV 2nd Gen plays it fine without any issues.
