I notice that the qpkg filesize difference between 0.9.32 and 0.9.33 is almost double. Any particular reason for this?

Most likely is the record engine file size - I've not really paid attention but it is by far the largest binary file there.

I have no special knowledge about the actual details (and I am much much too lazy to actually check), but I will note that the more recent recorder engines seems to now have strings in the binary for using https for communications to the SD cloud services rather than http, and there is a bunch of x509 and tls strings too which makes sense for https traffic. Crypto has a price, and one of those prices is code size.

According to Google Cached change log (they removed all the references to beta record engines in the current change log), the only change was "Start without requiring internet connection." So likely, they had to beef up the record engine to not have to call home and instead run standalone?

Updated QNAP firmware, HDHomerun tuner software, and HDHomerun DVR software and it seems everything is now dead. Anyone else have the issue?

Recording engine no longer shows up in http://my.hdhomerun.com/

HDHomerun app on windows no longer sees the DVR.

DVR is running, but something is weird. It is pointed still to the shows, it sees months of logs files, but no recorded shows show up. Also this weird log:

What did you update the DVR from?
My bet is it's a permissions issue where the recordings are for one user, and the engine is running as another.

ssh to the qnap nas and look at the permissions on a recording, e.g.

Code: Select all

ls -l /share/HDHomeRun/The Orville/*
should get a list similar to

Code: Select all

-rw-rw-r-- 1 httpdusr administrators 2270645012 Jul 19 20:30 recording.mpg
The red tells you who owns it and the owner permissions - in this case httpdusr owns the file, and has read and write access
The blue tells you which groups can access and their permissions - in this case administrators group has read and write access
Yellow is for everyone else - all others only have read access.
Assuming everything is running right you should see it owned by the httpdusr user for the engine, with read write.. or owned by someone else, but at least part of the httpusr group, or failing that at least have read or read/write access for all others.

To check the engine is running as right user, simple do the following

Code: Select all

ps -ef | grep hdho
should see something similar to

Code: Select all

httpdusr 10779 1 0 Aug18 ? 00:02:01 /tmp/hdhomerun_record_arm start --conf /HDHomeRunDVR.conf
Here you want to see it running as httpdusr

If engine is running right, but the file permissions are different..
You can change owner of the files easily with

Code: Select all

chown -R httpdusr /share/HDHomeRun/*

Support thinks that possibly there is an issue with the DVR engine getting to their authentication service. I've asked them for the URL as I do have PiHole and Quad9 filtering for malware / adware enabled and perhaps they got added to a blackhole.

Very likely something like that - because permissions look good.
clients must not be able to authorize properly.

Are there instructions somewhere about how to use DVR UI?

there used to be, but the thread got old so was removed by the system.
I'm travelling right now, so can't create a new one - but once I return I do plan to make some minor updates, and an SPK package, and will start a new thread to capture the info.
For now - most of it is pretty instinctive to use. The creating recordings is the most complex.. But since other than explicitly deleting your episodes (you have to click delete) there is very little chance to screw things up - just experiment.

New to the QNAP, but I've used the HDHomeRun and DVR on Windows for awhile. I tried the NAS install in the windows drivers, my.hdhomerun.com never saw the DVR, but the installer confirmed it was installed successfully. I then tried this package, same thing. Also when I run the app from the QNAP I just get a white box, I can go to the URL. However in the HDHomeRun Apps, they say No DVR Configured. Where should I start looking? Thanks in advance.

You have the subnet mask set wrong on your NAS. It's set to 255.255.0.0 but it looks like the rest of your network is using 255.255.255.0.

Thanks! That was it, somehow I must have missed that when setting the static IP on the QNAP. I appreciated the assistance!
