Here is a log with Debug turned on.

Looks like it's getting locked up, the new stream wait technique may not be compatible with the Shield. Well crud. Out of curiosity do Recordings work at all or do the same thing?

Of course I suggest reverting back to the official v1.1.1 version. If this isn't compatible with ARM and is locking up on the Shield it's probably not going to be a good way of doing this. Works great on Windows! lol

I need to get an ARM64 device to use for testing!

Sorry!

edit: Actually, this may be a bonehead mistake on my part. Hang tight, I'll see if I can get a new one out later tonight. I think it may be opening multiple streams simultaneously and stepping all over itself due to what amounts to a typo. ugh.

Sorry, edited prior post after you posted this one :) To reiterate:

If this is the problem, Live TV will go bonkers since Kodi does a handful of seek operations when you start one, which stop and restart everything a few times. My Wifi laptop is also having a cow with this build.

Will your add-on work with the dev Kodi 18 64bit?

The official one (v1.1.1) or this nightmare of a test version (v1.2.0)? I'm replacing the test version now, can probably be ready tomorrow morning as it's getting to be a bit late here. I'll nuke the link and delete the files now, though.

I have a version that does support Kodi 18, all platforms, including Win64, except the Android APKs since they aren't available yet to modify. Kodi 18 is a bit of a moving target at the moment, but so far everything is working OK.

You can't use anything officially published with Kodi 18 yet, the addon is version-specific. Once I have something stable I'll probably post a link to something you could use on Kodi 18 if you wanted.

OK NVidia guys, I reverted back to using a full thread again in the test version (1.2.0). It appears to work the same for me, but I am curious if this restores streaming for you on the ARM platforms. I'm less confident that it will have any effect on the original problem you are experiencing, with the stream stopping and buffering for no good reason, but it might!

https://1drv.ms/f/s!AgEGEEVzGNq-id4geR8Srw96VdBNJQ

Krypton only, but Linux ARM build is also back.

For folks watching the thread, this is a test version intended to see if we can get live TV streams to work better on the NVidia shield. I don't recommend using it for general purposes. This is an in-progress sort of thing.

edit: Are you guys using Shield v2s? You know, in case I happen to be on Amazon later ... :)

Shield TV 2015 but the 2017 have the same specs just a few changes in appearance and number of usb ports.

No change some channels refuse to play. Mostly my cable channels that are H264 which is 90% ... all OTA Channels play fine MPEG2 ... all MPEG2 cable channels play fine.

Edit....
Rebooting the Shield seems to have helped will post logs if anything of significance happens.

1.1.1 ... Used the android Arm (32 bit) version since the firestick is 32 bit... Havent tried the 64 bit version on my firetv 4k yet.

Re: Unofficial Kodi PVR Client for HDHomeRun DVR subscribers

Post by danielwlewis »

After stumbling through some confusing NAS configuration settings, I finally managed to get everything setup. I still have a problem with the Kodi DVR plugin for HDHomeRun, but the Windows HDHomeRun application from SD seems to work flawlessly:
  1. I can view live TV and see that a corresponding mpg file is being recorded in subdirectory "Live TV" of the share on my NAS.
  2. I can also simultaneously record a second program (a movie) and see that a subdirectory called "Movies" is created with the mpg file of the movie being recorded within it.
But when I use the Kodi DVR plugin the results are different:
  1. Watching live TV works the same: I can see that a corresponding mpg file is being recorded in the "Live TV" subdirectory of the share.
  2. However, if I try to simultaneously record a movie as above, it doesn't create a Movies subdirectory, nor create a corresponding mpg file anywhere within the HDHomeRun share hierarchy. Kodi seems to think everything is OK in that it puts a red "recording" icon in the guide on the movie, but I am also unable to find any recordings listed in the Kodi recordings menu.
It would seem that the Kodi DVR plugin is storing recordings somewhere other than in the HDHomeRun share. Yet what's puzzling is that Live TV *IS* being recorded there.

Any ideas?

Solved!: I had configured my NAS box to share the folder both via SMB/CIFS and NFS, and for reasons I've yet to understand, the NFS share was in a different location than the SMB/CIFS share - even though they both had the same share name and both were (according to OpenMediaVault) supposed to be shares connected to the same folder. Once I deleted the NFS share, everything started working! ;)

Lots of posts! Only have a few minutes, let's see how much drivel I can spew here :)

Dan - COOL! Glad it's working!

numus - I actually have a Fire stick around here somewhere. It's first-gen, but I'll see what I can do. I'm not certain the Fire stick has enough horsepower to handle the live streams from the DVR.

NYPlayer - I give up!! LOL. I will try to get an ARMv8 OS/Kodi build working on my Pi 3 to see if I can duplicate this, it's not the same CPU, but maybe something will show up that gives me a better clue why the Shield is being a pain. I'll see if I can score a used shield somewhere, I can justify putting it in the bedroom as Kodi box :)

General - H.264 streams are occasionally problematic for everyone, myself included. AMC is my biggest problem child. Streaming direct from the tuner yields different results than from the DVR engine, and honestly - I have no idea why. I've even asked SD for help :) My best guess after hours and hours of floundering around is that the DVR engine stream sometimes is missing something, perhaps a 'key frame'. Kodi thrashes around seeking back and forth on the stream for a while trying to find it and gives up. I haven't had a bad channel lately to test against, but it's always H.264 and always a movie (for me). The PVR has no involvement with the decoding aspect, that's all on Kodi, but I have an idea to use my own Demuxer to stop the seek thrashing. It takes time :(
