Is there a limitation on number of channels in Kodi add-ons?

Post by averyfreeman »

Hey

New to Kodi addons for Hdhomerun ... I think I've tried at least 4 of them now

They all go up to channel 159, when I have digital cable channels into the 1000s ... is there some kind of limitation restricting them? because I noticed it was the same across all the ones I tried...

Thanks

@averyfreeman,

I'm on cable, and I've been playing with the Kodi add-on the last couple of days before I go back to university. I have the 3-tuner Prime with the 20200521 stable firmware update (latest). I'm able to access stations up to 950. (My provider has the Music Choice channels in the 900 channel range.) Have you checked your Prime's firmware version? Check to see that it's up-to-date.

There's one other thing: I'm using the HDHomeRun add-on provided by SiliconDust (ver. 2019.9.15). Are you using this version? Or, are you using its clone, HDHomeRun Simple by Lunatixz (ver. 1.0.4)??

In most cases in the US the highest real cable channel is 158 (~1GHz). But most, probably all, real channels have multiple virtual channels, each with an integer number, so many of those can be in the thousands. I don't know why you're seeing 159 instead of 158 but it's probably referring to the real channel number.

This depends on the kodi addon you are referring to. If it's a "PVR" addon, like pvr.hdhomerun, or zuki.pvr.hdhomerundvr, Kodi will by default assign sequential channel numbers starting at 1. To expose the actual channel numbers, you would need to go into Settings / PVR & Live TV / General and enable "Use channel numbers from backend". Note that this setting has no effect if you have more than one PVR addon installed, and will not even appear if you don't have any PVR addons installed and enabled.
