Am I reading that right, they are going to abandon ATSC 1.0 users and require 3.0 tuners?

No, KPLR's ATSC 1.0 stations will be carried by other St. Louis stations like KMOV and KTVI

I know they will move. But even I as a "technology enthusiast", this reads like they are moving to 3.0 only.

"If you currently use an antenna to watch KPLR 11 The CW and these subchannels for free, you may need to obtain new equipment to receive the ATSC 3.0 signal,"

They have to keep the ATSC 1.0 broadcast going for a minimum of 5 years after they start broadcasting ATSC 3.0.

I have seen this 5 year requirement quoted in many forums but have yet to find it in the regulations. My interpretation of the regulations is that the simulcast requirements will sunset on July 17, 2023 which is subject to further review. If someone can point out the 5 year requirement in the regulations, please do so.

It's just what I heard. I'm not worried about it now, and I won't be worried 5 years from now. Any station would be foolish to turn off the ATSC 1.0 signal before the vast majority of their viewers have the capability to receive ATSC 3.0, and that certainly won't happen in the next 5 years.

Full power stations are unlikely to switch over for a long time. If the simulcast rules sunset in 2023, I would hope that some smaller stations make the full switchover. I still would like to know where people get this 5 year rule from.

Where are these filings viable on? I want to track Chattanooga. Is it Fcc.today?
