Firmware 20210115beta1

Post by nickk »

Beta firmware:
https://download.silicondust.com/hdhome ... rmware.bin

The interesting channel is 151.1 in Seattle...
* Fixed a problem preventing this channel from playing.
* 151.1 is broadcasting an ATSC 3.0 app which the HDHomeRun will serve.

ATSC 3.0 app:
1) Tune the virtual channel using the HDHomeRun app or HDHomeRun Config GUI.
2) The following URL will show the files cached by the HDHomeRun. It will take around 30-60 seconds for the app files to appear.
http://hdhomerun.local/atsc3/v151.1/
(Replace hdhomerun with the Device ID if you have more than one device).

Good news is 151/Univision is now showing. For some reason I'm having a hell of a time tuning the other two V channels (ABC/CBS) on CH24 on PC but I was able to so on a Shield.
Bad news, I don't speak Spanish and I can no longer tune any of the 4 channels on CH31 (the ones that defaults to SAP), even via Config GUI/VLC. I did a rescan with no change. They are showing 100% signal but are acting like 151.1 did. Not sure if anyone else in Seattle is having the same issue at the moment. This may not have anything to do with the new firmware as I tried it just before and wasn't able to view it in the HDHR app, but I hadn't tried the gui. It is possible it is just my issue or that they did something to the feed today.
I can test more later tonight.

Can you also explain what this "app" is?: "151.1 is broadcasting an ATSC 3.0 app"

It is a html/js app (basically a mini website) delivered via ATSC 3.0.

I installed the 151 beta fix and it does indeed fix the No Data problem with 151. I see both video and Spanish audio.
However.... none of the other HEVC channels work now. Both physical channels 24 & 31 show the No Data error message, except for 151.
How do I go back to the previous firmware?

Did you happen to test to see if 31 channels were working for you prior to applying the beta? Given I was having issues before I upgraded I am not sure the broadcast is working right vs. the firmware causing issues.
I am able to get 104 & 107 to tune some of the times, more so on my Shield than on my PC, but it is still failing most of the time where it was more of an exception for it to tune. I am assuming this part is likely to be the beta firmware issue as 151 tunes every time.

Interesting. What the heck is this? Looks like it is trying to trigger Sinclair owned app you might have on your TV or other device. Or is it just trying to track what you are watching through those apps?

I did try 105.1 & 107.1 before I installed the 151 beta and they worked before the Beta install.
Time for another WAG.
I'm guessing that the beta firmware just ignores the .json code on 151 and Windows 10 HDHomeRun.exe will not work on the other HEVC channels until Silicon Dust installs an interface to handle the .sjon code or just ignores it on all HVEC channels until they get the interface working.
Right now the current version of the HDHomeRun app doesn't know what to do with .json files and chokes, showing the No Data error message.
Remember a couple of weeks ago when Sinclair announced STIRR XT support for KOMO, 104.1?
Sinclair is probably running it on 151.1 as a beta so as to not mess up their primary Seattle channel until programmers get a chance to change their receiver code to handle .json files.

I wouldn't guess that is the core issue as 151 is on 24 with 104 and 107 and they both work, they just fail in the HDHR app a lot more than normal. The channel 31 stations are unrelated and they won't even tune from the config_gui.

What I meant was that they changed the Firmware beta to be able to ignore the .json file which caused the HDHomeRun app to expect that their should be a .json file to ignore on physical channel 24.
I just tried physical channel 24 and the virtual channels are working now although they weren't earlier.
Since it can't find the .json file on physical channel 31 it chokes up and errors out.
The physical channel 31 virtual channels don't work with the current version of the Windows 10 HDHomeRun app or the iPad Pro version.
As you said when I use HDHomeRun Setup.exe physical channel 24 (104.1, 107.1, and 151.1) works with VLC, except for the AC4 issue but 31 doesn't.

Can you please do a format=dbg capture of one of the channels that isn't working and do it by v<number>. I will take a look.

The app provides access to OTT radio channels.

105, 113, 116, 122 are all CH31. None play at all via the HDHR software nor will even tune from config_gui (similar to how KUNS 151 wouldn't prior to this firmware). All the captures are exactly 12.972MB which is (small and) weird..
I included 104 and 107 that are on CH 24 along with 151 that have gotten hard to tune in the player (or impossible to tune as larrywhite is experiencing)

https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%21A ... 31209CB69D

As for the code, it seems to not just be calling the radio stations, it seems to be calling all sorts of functions of the Stirr app including local tv, weather and other things. Are you aware if this is supposed to just trigger sinclair's separate app on the TV to create overlays? If so, I'm assuming this won't work with HDHR as that would be an app on the HDHR app. I honestly don't want that Sinclair crap to work, just interested in any 'new' aspect to all of this.

Seeing the same thing, where these channels previously worked but don't anymore, I have not installed the beta or anything though.

Same for me and I have a great signal.

Hi Nick,

I saved an alp-pcap with "Invoke-WebRequest -Uri" in PowerShell, no errors. The file shows checksum errors on all UDP packets in WireShark and I get a "not a valid pcap file" when trying to open with modulator. Is the format=alp-pcap the correct syntax to save an alp?

Thanks,

Luis
