* Fix crash changing audio tracks on ATSC 3.0 channels.
* Fix crash playing ATSC 3.0 channels with poor reception.

It also improves compatibility with one station that was causing problems.

It may take a day or two to show on the app store as an update.

New AppleTV app still doesn't work correctly. I am still getting monochrome pictures and intermittent stalling. I get a picture in and out and then it freezes. The app for my LG TV is slow to connect and some times it doesn't connect at all, but the picture and sound are good when it does connect. Hope this helps improve the app. I know everyone is trying hard to make it perfect.

Quick questions first...
Apple TV 4 or Apple TV 4K?
Does the channel play ok on other platforms such as Windows 10?

If you can make a short recording or a short capture of the channel, upload to a file service and PM me the share link I can add it to our testing here.

Apple TV 4K. Plays ok on my LG tv when I can get it to connect. The LG tv has perfect video and audio ...when it connects...I don’t use Windows products...sorry, so I have no means to copy a video segment.

Thanks for trying to educate me, but I am clueless about what you suggested.

You have a Mac, right?

You'll need to know the IP address of your HDHomeRun. Go to http://my.hdhomerun.com/ and click on the device ID for your HDHomeRun, and look at what comes up in the address bar. It will be 4 numbers separated by periods, most likely starting with 192.168.

Then, open Terminal so you can run the command. If the numbers you get are 192.168.12.13, and the channel you're having problems with is 4.1, the command would be:

Code: Select all

curl http://192.168.12.13:5004/auto/v4.1?duration=30 -o test.mpg
This will give you a test.mpg file in your user folder. Upload that somewhere (iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.). There should be an option in whatever service you use to get a link to the file that you can share. Get that link, and send it in a PM to nickk.

OK, followed your directions and produced a file using my Apple TV and my iMac. When I play back the file using VLC, the audio and video are perfect. Yet on my TV I get this monotone green flashing to a good picture and back again and then it freezes. Do I have a setting wrong somewhere?

I occasionally get the green broke up screen but without the crash in Phoenix. Have asked the same question here about settings and never saw a response

Thanks for making me feel I'm not the only one experiencing this.

If there are other AppleTV 4K users in the DFW area that are not having problems, I would love to compare settings to see if it is something I am doing wrong. Operator error happens all the time. What I can't understand is how I get the problem when I watch the station on TV, but when I look at the raw file with VLC it looks perfect. Weird...

Hey Grumbles,

I have the same issue with Fox 4 on 4.1. The HEVC is messed up with Apple TV4K using the latest 20201229 version. It will be green and then "normal" and then green and then after a bit freeze. Same issue or not playing at all on all the ATSC channels 4.1/23.1/49.1/49.2 They all use the same xmitter RF channel 34.

It will play fine on my 43UN7300 2020 TV with the updated app. It will play on VLC on my PC with no audio (AC4 issue) just fine (except for the audio). All my signal strength is fine. So its just not you.

Watching 4.1 on RF channel 34 doesn't work on apple TV4k as its ATSC3:
Tuner 0 Status
Virtual Channel 4.1 FOX
Frequency 593.000 MHz
Program Number 4
Modulation Lock atsc3
Signal Strength 100%
Signal Quality 100%
Symbol Quality 100%
Streaming Rate 4.338 Mbps
Resource Lock 192.168.5.117

Watching 4.2 on RF channel 35 is fine, but its ATSC1:
Tuner 3 Status
Virtual Channel 4.2 DECADES
Frequency 599.000 MHz
Program Number 4
Modulation Lock 8vsb
Signal Strength 100%
Signal Quality 100%
Symbol Quality 100%
Streaming Rate 2.600 Mbps
Resource Lock 192.168.5.117

Chris, Thank you so very much. I am happy to hear I didn't screw things up on my end. If I could only get my LG TV to connect every time, I wouldn't have any complaints at all. It connects to ATSC3 stations about once every 5-6 times I try. And then when I tune off to another station, it won't connect again. Sounds like we have a combination of transmitter errors and software/firmware that isn't 100% yet. This is what happens when you are bleeding edge...LOL In any case, when I was a beta tester for Microsoft Network, It took a couple of years to get the bugs out. And I have the t-shirt to prove it. I would expect this to be a long process before we can depend on turning the box on and getting our programs. All the best in the New Year.

If VLC is playing both the video and the audio then it might not be ATSC 3.0, as VLC doesn't currently support AC-4 audio used by ATSC 3.0.

Can we have you upload the file somewhere and send us a link to download it? A site like Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud, OneDrive, etc.
