Detroit ATSC 3.0 - 2020

Post by cincylion »

It looks like Detroit is scheduled for 12/7 according to this post:

WMYD made their ATSC 3.0 filing today. Their RF 31 signal will convert to ATSC 3.0 on 12/7

https://www.avsforum.com/threads/detroi ... 6/page-660

When I first got my new tuner I was able to get WHNE, RF channel 3, but no longer showing up in a scan.

WHNE has always been flaky for me. I was able to watch it a few months ago for a week or two, then never again. The power output is just too low for any distance greater that a few miles. I have 4 different tuners, and they all have the same reception problem.

This has probably been discussed many times, but until they started broadcasting in ASTC 3 in my area, it all went over my head.

Now the question that I have, >> HOW do I get the channels that are broadcast in ATSC 3 to use my ATSC 3 tuners. Example, one of my channels 2.1 broadcast in both ATSC 1 and 3, but when I tune that channel it used a NON ATSC 3 tuner..... Hope that makes sense.

I did some testing yesterday but I had temporarily lost the HEVC channels. Rescanned and they're back so I did some more testing.
On my LG OLED55B7A (2017 model):
With the Hdhomerun app on LG tv, video and audio with some freezing.
With my Nvidia Shield 2015 model and Hdhomerun app, video no audio.
With the Nvidia Shield 2015 and Channels DVR server version 2020.12.08.0306 and Channels client Beta 11.29.2136, video and audio with some freezing.
With Amazon FireTV 4K and Hdhomerun app, video no audio some freezing.
With Amazon FireTV 4K and Channels client app Beta 11.29.2136, video and audio with some freezing.
Nvidia Shield and FireTV were connected by HDMI directly to the tv.

How do you get your devices to use the 4k tuner. Each of my HEVC channels share the same number, ex. 2.1. How do you select that HEVC channel?? I can't figure it out...

If you select 2.1, 4.1, 7.1, 20.1 or 62.1 you'll get the HEVC version on tuner 0 or 1.
You'll only get the ATSC 1.0 channels on tuner 2 or 3.

That is my issue, how do I force the channel selection to grab tuner 0 or 1?
Ok, I recoded shows on all of the other tuners.. The ATSC 3 tuners were the last ones selected........... Now I can test.
