Firmware:

Firmware 20201030 released with support for the Entity Mode audio/video delivery now in use in Portland.

Notable issues:
* 2 virtual channels are not detected by the channel scan in Phoenix and cannot be tuned manually. The ch27 broadcast recently changed such that there is no valid combination of concurrent PLPs where both the LLS data and S-TSID data are available for 2 of the virtual channels. We have a solution in progress.
* dash-tar format (DEV feature) does not work in Portland. The problem is understood and will be fixed shortly.

Apps

The 20201030 release for Mac supports ATSC3 with audio on 2018+ series MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models running Mac OS 10.15+.

Today we submitted apps with ATSC3 playback support for Android, FireTV, iOS, and AppleTV. Audio playback support depends on the hardware device.

Are you working on an updated App for Roku?

I noticed the update last night and tried it out. With Phoenix channels 15.1 or 61.1 the Windows 10 HDHomeRun works reasonably well in that I have picture and sound but it runs smoothly for a while and then regularly has hesitations. My Nvidia Shield is still unwatchable so I look forward to the app update.

There really is no such thing in regards to this section of the forum as roku apps(channels) are 100% dependent on it's @#$%^ player. Another section of the forum would be more appropriate for any "feature" with the roku app that doesn't involve actual viewing of the channel/recordings which might possibly be able to change.

I'm getting both video/audio with the latest app on my MacBook Air 2018, however, the app is still choosing the EXTEND tuner over the CONNECT 4K tuner for channels that (also) have ATSC 3.0 broadcasts.

To add to my post above, some channels definitely have some odd audio.

During 9:30a - 10:15a PT broadcasts
Audio on MacBook Air (decoded to stereo?)

2.1 both channels but voice (center?) is noticeably louder on one side
6.1 both channels but voice (center?) is noticeably louder on one side
8.1 good audio
10.1 good audio

12.1 during college football, no audio for announcer (center channel?), lots of audio dropouts (verified announcer on ATSC 1.0 broadcast) little to no center channel during commercials as well.

32.1 a lot of audio dropouts, both channels but one definitely louder than the other; and getting voice-over audio description track as well. Audio was better during commercials than during the program.

49.1 good audio

In Las Vegas. HDHR and Channels DVR both working now with sound. However, on the channel scan, 33.1 is detected as HEVC and then when the list is finalized, it's not. Using the GUI, I can tune to it (29 5003) and view it using VLC. That's with both PLP boxes checked. The other 3 sub-channels on 29 are detected as HEVC and viewable.

The HDHomeRun Android App update showed up on my Nvidia Shield. The video is much much improved. Looks like it is what it should be. However, now I don't get sound on the HEVC channels (PHX 15.1 and 61.1) - traditional channels are fine. My Shield feeds into my Dolby Atmos capable Denon receiver so I should be able to hear sound. I did before the app upgrade, but then the picture (and sound) broke up every couple of seconds... so one step forward, two back?

Following up on my own post for those who may find themselves in similar situations.

I sent a query to Denon Tech Support and this is their response:

"Upon looking about the possibility of Dolby AC-4 being supported by the AVR-X3600H, unfortunately, it is not and still no information if there will be an update to be able to support the format. We're sorry to inform you about that."

Bummer. On the bright side, I do happen to have an LG TV so I installed the HDHomeRun app on it and that works flawlessly, both with sound from its own speakers and with sound sent over ARC to my receiver. I think it's safe to conclude that the TV does the unpacking of AC-4 for both paths itself.

Look at the Video but no sound thread pinned to the top of the forum. Only the 2019 and newer models support AC-4 audio.
