ATSC 3.0: Nashville TN OTA

Post by mrquietus »

I wanted to post here in case others are in the Nashville TN area. I was kickstarter backer and just started detecting ATSC 3 broadcasts this weekend. The ATSC channels I am detecting with HDHomeRun Quatro 4K are 2.1, 5.1, 17.1, 17.3, 30.1, and 58.1. These are on 2 different channels with 3 different "programs" on each channel. I have posted some screenshots into AVSForums under Nashville OTA as well.

There appears to be at least 2 or 3 Quatro 4K customers in the Nashville area market based on AVS Forum posts. If you can receive Nashville area broadcasts you may want to check out that forum as well for specific local information regarding ATSC3.0 in addition to this forum.

I've found, in general, the ATSC 3.0 signal levels to be lower than the ATSC 1.0 in Nashville. Intially when I was scanning channels I would get ATSC 3.0 for a station one time, then, maybe 15 minutes later, I could only pull in the ATSC 1.0 signal. Since I've upgraded my antenna it's stabilized.

On RF-30, I'm able to pull in all 3 stations, 2-1, 17-3, 58-1. However on RF 21, I'm only able to pull in 30-1, 17-1 and 5-1 show (no data). Can anyone here confirm whether 17-1 and 5-1 are actually transmitting an atsc 3.0 signal right now?

Also, I've updated to the latest HDHomerun app on both my Note 20 Ultra and Shield TV and do not get sound on either. Using Channels DVR Beta, I am able to get both video and sounds, but the ATSC 3.0 channels buffer constantly. Hopefully things will stabilize over time.

Same result here: no data on 17-1 and 5-1.

Sounds like this is going to be addressed with a firmware update, hopefully this week.

Looking good in Nashville after the last updates. All the audio issues seem to be ironed out and all of the market's channels (below) are streaming smoothly!

102.1 WKRN
105.1 WTVF
117.1 WZTV
117.2 TBD
130.1 WUXP
158.1 WNAB

Hello,

I live in McMinnville, TN (74 miles from Nashville). I have an outdoor Channel Master 3020, elevated 15’ above ground. I can get WSMV, WZTV, and sometimes WTVF. I can NEVER get WKRN, WNPT, or others. I bought this tuner in hopes I can atleast get one of the lower bit-rate signals from these 3.0 on air stations. As I said, right now I get NO SIGNAL on WKRN, WTVF, WUXP, or WNAB. Is this pointless effort if I cant get any signal on these stations, or is the fact these 3.0 signals have a lower SQ fall-back allow me to get these stations worth trying?

Probably won't help. Not all stations have a higher reliability channel available, and the ones that do, it's usually just a single service. You'd be better off replacing the antenna with one that isn't so poorly designed. The CM3020 is not an antenna I would buy under any circumstances due to its mediocre VHF performance and poor UHF performance on most of the current UHF band. You'd get better performance from a better antenna. I'd probably go with the HD Stacker from Denny's Antenna Service.

The tuner finally came, after the first was lost in the mail. So the tuner "sees" 3 of the 3.0 channels, not all. Will only get video from WUXP. I'm thinking I'm going to get the Televes DATBOSS LR UHF/VHF Antenna. I know it doesn't help that my total height is about 15 ft.

Here is what the scan shows. I’ve ordered the Televes antenna Tyler talked about in his Antenna Man video. I’m going to give that a try.

Oh thats where 2, and 58 are. I am getting no lock on 30 at all. Tech sees the data coming in. I have a lock for 21, but no data for WTVF, and WZTV.

Waste of time and money. You need the biggest antenna you can get with the most height you can get to have any chance. That little dinker is even worse than what you have now.
