ATSC 3.0: Oklahoma City

Post by akgolf »

Got my tuner in this week and it’s picking up two of the five stations in town. Video, no audio.

It didn’t pick up any stations until Oct 17th after an update and then another station on Oct 18th after an update.

10/17/20: 25.2 KOKH Fox
10/18/20: 34.1 KOCB CW

Are you actually able to tune video on KOCB? It doesn't even load video for me. I get video but no audio on Charge (25-2). In the TECH config gui, I can see the following channels:

19-5001, 43.1, KAUT
19-5002, 4.1, KFOR
19-5003, 25.2, KOKH (though as previously mentioned this is actually showing Charge video content)
19-5004, 34.1, KOCB
19-5005, 5.1, KOCO

I have yet to be able to figure out a way to watch anything on any of those channels besides 19-5003, KOKH.

Edit, interesting, I did just get KOCB to tune. Video drops frames and quickly hangs in the HDHomeRun app on my Shield TV Pro 2019. But I was getting audio briefly before the video got hung up.

I can tune to all of the channels you listed, but still no audio on the 3.0 channels.

I’m using Plex on an Apple TV 4K. It takes longer for the 3.0 channels to load.

I find it interesting that the 3.0 channels won’t load within the HDHomerun app on Apple TV.

Plex / Apple TV cannot play the audio format (AC-4).

Apparently neither can Plex and my Fire Cube.

I talked to an engineer at one of the local stations to let them know the progress. They’re watching on a newer Samsung TV and it works fine. Sent him a link to the SiliconDust tuner and they’ll purchase one to play with.

What model year of Samsung TV? And what app/player are they using?

I didn’t ask, but I’ll shoot them an email.

Most likely the same 8K ATSC 3.0 TV that "everyone" was using prior to SD's offering to try ATSC 3.0. (most often the Q800T but can be other 2020 8K tv's from samsung)

If anyone finds solutions to getting AC-4 working (preferably with Plex), please let us know. I could see all the channels listed in a previous post, but I don't have any way to decode the sound. Drives me nuts. Can't they include some other audio format besides AC-4?

That's entirely up to Plex to get it done (it's on their radar but no ETA, normal for Plex); you'll want to monitor their PMS release announcements thread in their forum and/or the Plex app announcement for your platform.
