ATSC 3.0: Pittsburgh

Post by avdp »

This is a repost of message from another thread. I just wanted Pittsburgh to have its own thread.

I've done a channel scan, it still doesn't show any HEVC channels, even with firmware 20201015

Everything is the same. I can see the atsc3 channel through config gui, but I can't view the channel.

I've tried everything I can think of, including tuning by frequency-program with this url:

http://192.168.1.235:5004/auto/ch515000000-5001

Doing this shows an error message in the log:
20201014-23:23:21 Tuner: tuner0 tuning auto:515MHz-5001
20201014-23:23:26 HTTP: rejecting request from 192.168.1.193 - no video data
20201014-23:23:26 Tuner: tuner0 http stream ended (requested time reached)
If there is anything I can do to troubleshoot, let me know. I don't have the "developer" version of the device, so I can't capture.

More strange things. Using EyeTV I did a scan on the 14th and at least detected 22.1 at 515 mhz but it wouldn't play content. Today with the new firmware doing a new scan from EyeTV doesn't pick it up.

Interesting. So different hardware (not SD) has similar issues. I think there is definitely going to be a long while before ATSC 3.0 is reliable...

It would be interesting to get a dbg capture of this channel...

1) Upgrade to the latest 20201017 firmware.

2) Use a web browser to save http://10810066.local:5004/auto/ch21p0p ... uration=30
Save the file as 20201017-10810066-pittsburgh.dbg

3) Upload to a file service and PM me the download link.

Thanks for the capture - problem found and fixed (text protocol, and the broadcaster is sending "SLS" instead of "sls").

Please install the new 20201017a firmware.

Installed new firmware and 1 of the 3 channels is found and added to my line 22.1 here is tuner 0 status:

Tuner 0 Status
Virtual Channel 22.1 WPNT
Frequency 515.000 MHz
Program Number 5001
Modulation Lock atsc3
Signal Strength 100%
Signal Quality 82%
Symbol Quality 100%
Streaming Rate 3.495 Mbps
Resource Lock 172.16.1.219

If i try to use the hdhomerun app on my iphone 11 on IOS14.2 i get no video or sound. Also the other 2 channels don't get found and i know one is online. Here over on AVS Forum one i first got mine tuner i posted here and someone sent a picture on there of their conference astc 3.0 capable tv tuned into 4.1 WTAE on astc 3.0:

https://www.avsforum.com/threads/pittsb ... 5/page-254

If i user VLC i get video no sound like i expect soooo progress!!!!!!!!!!!!

Progress!

The channel scan shows a single HEVC channel 22.1 WPNT

But I am able to play all 3 of them (including 53.1 WPGH and 4.1 WTAE) through hdhomerun_config_gui if I check the boxes for both PLPs.

None of the channels play audio through VLC, but I gather that's expected (codec not yet supported by VLC)

So really the only open issue is to get the other channels to show on the channel scan...

I just verified this, these URLs work for the other 2 channels:

53.1 WPGH: http://<your_ip>:5004/auto/ch21p0p1-5002
4.1 WTAE: http://<your_ip>:5004/auto/ch21p0p1-5004

The scan isn't picking up those two sub-channels due to the PLP config.

I am researching...

Another observation: the one channel that does show up in the lineup at this time does not play at all on an Apple TV 4k on either the HDHomeRun app, or the Channels app. The channels app actually shows 1 frame then freezes. The Apple TV is hardwired (ethernet) to the same switch as the tuner, so not likely to be a networking issue.

After the latest update, I'm seeing 22.1 as HEVC like everyone else is saying, but that's the only one.

Also has anyone been able to download a pcap of it yet? I've tried a few variations of the commands from the sticky, but it just downloads a video file. Not sure if I'm getting the syntax wrong or what.

With version 20201017a of the firmware I too see channel 21 now show HEVC HD after a scan. When I used the config GUI app and turned on the two PLP options I was able to get the other two channels to show (in that GUI only) as no longer listing as NO DATA. I installed VLC media player and was able to get picture to show for all three subchannels (with both PLP options selected). Unfortunately no audio though.

When I tried to use the HDHomeRun windows app, the video for channel 21 will eventually show but it is staggered or just locks up and has no audio. I saw similar results when using the HDHomeRun app on my Xbox as well.

Is there a way to save the PLP settings so that the Windows/Xbox apps could use them? I tried following the command line config setting of the tuner0 that is a sticky on the forum, but it doesn't seem to tell me if that config is saved. I know that when I went back into the config GUI and selected channel 21 the two PLP options were unselected again.

Can you please try installing the new 20201018 firmware and running a channel scan from the device webpage.

Had some problems on the download link in the forum. It keeps giving me 20201017a even thought the page was refreshed and the titile is labeled 18.

but then i now the trick and downloaded 20201018 by going to manually.
http://download.silicondust.com/hdhomer ... 201018.exe

I have ran the channel scan from the web page and my results are now the same only one astc channel listed in the channel list
wtae and wpgh astc channels no where to be found. (ran it 3 times)

i can access them from the config_gui and then VLC once i check the PLP boxes.
