My dev unit arrived on Saturday, just in time for the launch of ATSC 3.0 here in Austin. I got it hooked up today and updated to the latest firmware.
We should only have a single 3.0 multiplex right now on RF 31.
Doing a channel scan from the web page seemed to crash a few times - it would scan a while, then the web page would reset to 0 channels found. I finally got a good scan but no ATSC 3.0 results. I found a better antenna and hooked it up and scanned again - one scan reset, then a scan with 59 channels found. This showed all the expected channels and subchannels, but only showed HD and SD ones.
I fired up hdhomerun_config_gui and pointed tuner 0 at RF 31. It succeeded in finding ATSC3 modulation there. It identifies three subchannels: 14.1 KBVO-CD, 36.1 KXAN-CD, 42.1 KEYE-CD, and 54.4 KXAN-CD. These all share virtual channel numbers with ATSC1 channels being broadcast. Since so much of the UI seems to rely on VCs not being duplicated, I wonder how it's supposed to handle this situation.
Signal strength is around 85%. Signal quality hovers between 65% and 75%, while symbol quality is pegged at 100%.
I'm not able to see any video using VLC 3.11. It will launch and seems to be getting data, but it's not in a format it can handle so I get no video or audio.

As with the other thread, a manual scan shows the ATSC 3 channels, but they aren't in my lineup.

Re: ATSC 3.0 in Austin, Texas
based on that scan I would only expect you to see 42.1... if you don't have that as ATSC 3, I suggest you do a rescan from the device.

Re: ATSC 3.0 in Austin, Texas
The only way I'm able to get the device to acknowledge the ATSC 3 channels is via the command line scan or by manually tuning to a RF channel 31 with the hdhomerun_config_gui.

Re: ATSC 3.0 in Austin, Texas
OK, so I found that turning on PLP 0+1 solved the "no data" issue. I'm still not getting any video when I stream to VLC, but I'm working on getting some local dumps to try to validate what's being sent by the broadcasters.

An attempt to capture any video stream gives something like this

Re: ATSC 3.0 in Austin, Texas
Currently, when trying to do http-download with RF ("ch267000000" instead of virtual channel number "v14.1"), the HDHR defaults to PLP0. So, if you are in an area where it's PLP1 or PLP0+1, the download will fail. I brought this up on the HDHR IRC channel, and one of the devs said they'll add a way to manually specify the PLP in the next firmware update.
Re: ATSC 3.0 in Austin, Texas
What is on RF 31? I looked on antennaweb.org and I don't see any channels on RF 31.
I am loving this new tuner. I'm out west in Johnson City, and my HDHR Extend wouldn't pick up Fox 7. The new HDHR 5 picks it up great!

Re: ATSC 3.0 in Austin, Texas
AntennaWeb is said to use an older database. rabbitears.info looks to be more up-to-date, but even there they don't have every update. I noted some info on the FCC filings around this over at AVS Forum - https://www.avsforum.com/threads/austin ... t-60156873
RF 31 was the KBVO-CD signal (which all identified as virtual channel 14). Those subchannels have been reallocated to other ATSC 1.0 broadcasters, freeing RF channel 31 for the ATSC 3.0 feed.

Re: ATSC 3.0 in Austin, Texas
The format specifier in your curl statement looks to be incorrect. &t is for transcode, which is for the Extend units. Instead of "&t=alp-pcap", it should be "&format=alp-pcap".unwiredben wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 1:18 pm Applied the new 2020-10-14 firmware, and behavior is a little different

Re: ATSC 3.0 in Austin, Texas
I just tried again this morning with the 20201015 firmware and hdhomerun_config_gui, and I'm able to see video on all four of the subchannels once I set the tuner to PLP 0+1. Looks like they're doing 1080p for all of them, running at 29.97fps. When I did channel scan, it only found one of them, the one that shows up with data for the default PLP setting.

Re: ATSC 3.0 in Austin, Texas
I just got mine in today, verified KEYE works visually. I noticed I had to enable PLP0+1 in the Config GUI to have it change from no data for KVUE, KXAN and others to show properly, however the setting does not persist.plnota wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 8:33 pm Currently, when trying to do http-download with RF ("ch267000000" instead of virtual channel number "v14.1"), the HDHR defaults to PLP0. Did similar to what you mentioned:
hdhomerun_config_gui and pointed tuner 0 at RF 31.
Outdoor antenna: Signal Strength 87%, Signal Quality 96%, Symbol Quality 100%.
Re: ATSC 3.0 in Austin, Texas
When I try to tune to KEYE 42.1 using the HDHR app, nothing happens. In Plex, it will come up but it's really choppy. Maybe a problem with the signal strength?
