Whenever I start up the HDHomeRun app closed captions are on. I can turn them off, but if I exit the app and then start it again, the closed captions are back on. This happens every time.
I am seeing this on a regular Fire TV Stick (purchased Dec 2017; Fire TV Home Version: 6200198.1; Software Version: Fire OS 22.214.171.124; HDHomeRun app version: 20191210).
Strangely, I do not get this behavior on our Nvidia Shield NOR on our a new Fire TV Stick 4k.

Turn off closed captioning in the Fire TV device accessibility options. My guess is that it is on there which means on by default in HDHomerun and other apps. I had the same issue until I turned it off in Accessibility options on my Fire TV 2nd Gen, 2nd Gen Cube and Fire TV Stick 4K.

Yup! If you turn on closed captioning in another app, such as Prime Video, it sets the default for the firestick, until you turn it off again (Not in HDHR). HDHomeRun will default to CC on mode, if turned on in another app. Unfortunately, HDHomeRun doesn't act like other apps on the Firestick, turning the default off and on, so when you turn off CC in HDHR, it's only for that session of HDHR. It can be annoying.
Thanks guys. That seems to work.
