signcarver - crash on Live update

Post by signcarver » Fri Oct 25, 2019 10:41 am

I haven't been able to recreate the random black tiles but I still haven't been able to watch more than a few minutes before getting a black screen/crash and it exiting to the device's home screen... last time it happened I had just made sure diagnostics was on in app. I'll try a few more times then do the usual clear cache/data and see if that changes anything.

This is partly frustrating because I can't seem to find anyone else that has the problem. We have found a sort of related problem if we intentionally unplug an HDHR mid-playback, which is being worked on right now. When that gets pushed, I'll ping you to see if it helps.

For now, forget about me mentioning how the black boxes appeared randomly... I have only seen that happen one or two more times. What bothers me more is that on all my android boxes other than shield (mainly jestreams) I can't play any content longer than 5-10 minutes with early access enabled. It may be because I have 500+ channels available, 4-6 record engines running, and 4-6 devices and there is more limited ram on those devices (compared to shield) but something seems to be causing it to crash/close the app mid stream whether I ever bring the UI up or not (though it seems to happen faster if I do)... turn off early access I can play content for "days" without issue. I have reinstalled, cleared data/cache, etc. and generally it is the only non-stock app that has been loaded onto a device.

I'm seeing the app crash back to the Shield's main screen a few times a day while watching live TV as well.

Seems even worse with the latest UI update as before I would often get 10 minutes before crashing... enabled early access again and got 3 crashes right away from prime that points to app closing stream... will check from quatro in a bit.

Didn't seem to have issues with the quatro on early access but will try again overnight tried again with prime and it crashed then switched off early access and have been watching the same channel just fine for quite some time however noticed it chose another prime so will try to make sure it uses the same prime for the 2 tests next time around. Note nearly all channels on the prime will have drm protection.

I wonder if we could do some problem solving. What if we dropped the cablecard boxes and just used OTA?

My Shield hasn't crashed out of the HDHR app since I turned early access back on at about 4:15pm ET when I learned there was a new early release.

The quatros seem to work fine on the latest whether the primes are on or not.

If I unplug either prime, it also seems to work but does not seem to work long (using a prime rather than quatro) when more than one prime is on the network.

Where I am testing currently has the 2 quatros, primes and servio that is listed on the left as well as some my clouds running the record engine as well.

I am pretty much convinced it may be a memory issue on the jetstream... I had to turn on the other prime for wmc to record it's stuff but the channel continued to play for hours... at one point I noticed sending of diagnostics data was off in the app (swear I had this on since the issue started) so turned it back on... and restarted the app. Now with both primes on the network it crashed again so tuned to the quatro and it also crashed with the only thing different than before was sending of diagnostics was on... I turned that off and the quatro has been playing fine for 8 hours but if I tune to a prime's channel it crashed again (note: I tried a non-drm channel and it didn't appear to crash but then did on a drm channel)

So right now it appears non-drm channels work if diagnostics is off and 2 primes are detected and it works even if diagnostics is on when there is just one prime. DRM channels only work for extended periods when only one prime is detected (doesn't matter which one).
