HD Radio

Post by sdust »

The market is really short on consumer HD radios despite car manufactures being able to equip their cars with really nice units. The only decent models are manufactured by Sangean with their flagship model HDT-20 which however lacks HDMI connectivity/album artwork, so the integration with TV is not there.

As I understand it, HD Radio in the USA isn't a standard but a technology created by a single company and now owned by a licensing company.

It is not an open standard and not something we can support.

Totally understanding not wanting to make a product for a tech stuck in patent/licensing hell.

For anyone who is just wanting to learn more about the tech though, there are some good resources out there on how it works: https://www.rtl-sdr.com/?s=hd+radio

Thanks!

This nrsc5 is quite finicky. Had to buy a new V3 RTL SDR dongle and bump up the default timeout of 18sec as it is not sufficient on RPi4 to start playing.

Enjoying yellowShoes now.
