Recording DRM

Post by tecman4 » Fri Jan 31, 2020 7:11 am

Being a spectrum subscriber all channels are DRM with few exception.
I have been patiently waiting for Recording DRM to arrive for almost 5 years when I paid $55 for a Kickstarter that was never delivered.
The last Kickstarter update was 2/2/2017, that was 3 years ago.
If this is never going to arrive please say so.

They should/will not say any more until it is actually ready (other than it is being worked on ... and they should not update that statement until it is no longer true).

You would think that with Win7 and WMC not being supported by Microsoft any longer, that this would enable Silicon Dust to jump in and attract many new customers with DRM recording. Just sayin.....

DRM recording is still being worked on. There has been no change to that.

Can you give us a year that this might be completed in?

I've never seen such delay tactics and smoke screen by a company that promised something 5 years ago.
Of course silly ! When the 6 tuner comes out !

I finally gave up last week and subscribed to one of the major streaming tv services, even though I would have much rather kept Fios. But not paying their outrageous equipment fees. And don't want to go back to using multiple devices to watch tv and streaming services/apps.

Can only imagine the longtime customers they have lost with this debacle.

So this is how they continue to ignore the topic.

I've been finding reasons to stall for long enough. I'm tired.

As we're all seeing, CableCARD is limping along, due to the FCC completely stalling on forcing industry innovation. So streaming jumped into the fray and became the dominant technology. It's increasingly feeling like I'm holding onto yesteryear as I've always cherished a local DVR I had control over and/or had no subscription fees (owned a Moxi DVR for a while when CableCARD PC equipment was in its infancy, worked great and no fees just $$$ up front and was then abandoned... what a trend we're working on here). With IPTV and cloud DVR packages becoming feature rich, I've been stalling my shift away from the local hardware. To me part of it was having local content when there were internet issues, but for me these days internet issues mean power blackouts, and rarely at that for me. And I still have a growing Blu-Ray collection or sometimes new content on Plex to watch so I wouldn't be bored haha.

It's been 5 years since the Kickstarter and they feel no obligation to be honest with their customers. Appalling.
We have been entirely honest with our customers. The only somewhat-firm ETA we gave on DRM-recording support was that we were aiming for a 2019 release. We are disappointed that we were not able to meet our internal deadline, but no deception was intended in that situation.

Unless you want us to keep repeating ourselves with information that has already been covered, we do not have any new information to share at this time. Yes, we are still working on DRM-recording support. The PRIME6 has been delayed, but we are obligated to completing the DRM support even without the PRIME6 being released before or at the same time.

That is all we can say at this time.

Even The Tech Guy knows what's up and said it's probably vaporware on his show this past week.
By the way, Leo was talking about the PRIME6, not about DRM-recording support. Again, we are still working on the PRIME6, so I don't agree with his comment about the PRIME6 (he said it "may be" vaporware, not that he thought it would be), but DRM-recording support and the PRIME6 are not tied together.

StraightThruTheHeart - you are posting in this thread from two different forum accounts (DarthNihilus and StraightThruTheHeart). This is a violation for forum rules (and very uncool).
