Streaming Access Through HDHomeRun?

Post by urbnsr » Fri Apr 12, 2019 5:19 am

Not sure where to post this since it appears I am "not authorised to read this forum" (PremiumTV forum), but could an agreement with Disney's new, upcoming streaming service be established to access their content through our HDHomeRun tuners?

An article: https://disneynews.us/disney-streaming-service/

After digging around, it seems that this service will allow download for offline use.

?
You would stream, but COULD SiliconDust become a recognized device to stream their content through the tuner (similar in configuration to SD's Premium TV they used to have and combine with OTA)?

No, that's the job of the "client" not the hardware [removed by moderator].

In other words, you may find some client/software that more seamlessly integrates such (and it may at some time even be built into your TV) but online content is not for the "tuner" to "tune"

I understand and my client integrates well with the HDHomeRun - but not so well with streaming directly. I am just looking for ways to utilize the tuner for other than OTA. Kind of a way to use the device as intended when purchasing.

There are no current plans (that I'm aware of) to integrate any kind of streaming content that isn't schedule based. Disney isn't offering a 24 hour stream of some kind in their plan, are they?

I would LOVE some kind of integration with PHILO. But any of them would be welcome :)

I cannot find detailed info on what exactly Disney will have to offer. I can imagine they may not be offering too many details this far out. As far as Philo TV, did I see their programming data available on SchedulesDirect?

Sorry, probably should have been more clear. I'm not aware of any future plans to do something like Premium TV, but with another group like Philo either. With a lot of these groups, while we'd absolutely love to work with them, they just don't have the rights/permssion to integrate the way Premium TV did.

That's fine. Thanks Nate.
I think when I saw Disney, I assumed Disney would have the authority to actually grant those rights and permissions (to SiliconDust).

Disney (and people like CBS streaming) certainly could, but that was the point of my first post. Neither does a 24 hour stream that I know of, which means it wouldn't really fit within our current ecosystem.

Although this may not change anything, I wanted to mention that I see Philo TV listed on Schedules Direct service. Wouldn't this make Philo TV schedule based?

And, I still see HDHomeRun Premium TV still listed on Schedules Direct, also.

Gracenote added (most of) the OTT services some time ago. Of course, that mostly only applies to the LiveTV parts of the services. LiveTV, of course, is just an anachronism with the exceptions of breaking news and the sports fanatics (so called event TV). Personally, I want to watch what I want, when I want, where I want, and while there are various technologies to do it (VCRs decades ago, DVRs, on-demand), that is pretty much the way I expect to watch TV these days.

I'm pretty sure I already replied to this question.

Yes you did, but Philo has a presence on schedules direct's system leading me to believe they are schedule based. At least in part.

I know it was grasping at straws - And, I'm pretty sure I already had a working tuner before purchasing this one.
