Add HDHomerun to FireTV Live TV Sources

Post by john7259 » Mon Apr 01, 2019 4:46 pm

With the demise of Premium TV, and my belief that the FireTV will never again get DRM support, it would be great if HDHomerun could be added as a Live TV source. I just signed up for the Philo trial which is supported as a source, and it works pretty well. Having the local OTA channels as a source would give a great integrated solution. Any chance here? Work in progress?

The Amazon Recast is starting to look better because it integrates with the FireTV infrastructure for a single interface solution.

We've already reached out to Amazon regarding it.

Great to hear! How long ago was Amazon approached? Last week? A month ago? 6 months ago? I can see where Amazon may drag their feet here since it's a direct competitor to the Recast (although it may help FireTV sales).

At various times, but most recently at the end of last week.

That's great news, I asked about this a couple of months ago! It really would be sweet to get that more 'built in' to the Fire TV devices.

FYI - we completed FireTV Live TV Source support some months ago.

The released HDHomeRun app has full support for FireTV Live TV sources however it needs Amazon to whitelist the HDHomeRun app as a source and we have no idea if they will do that.

How do we as Amazon customers contact them and express we want this feature turned on?

Huh? Sounds like the SD relationship mgr for Amazon needs to step things up!

I agree, it shouldn't be this difficult to work with Amazon.

Best not to reward Amazon as they are the cause of the delay.

I frankly can't believe company reps would make posts like that (I took a screenshot).

It's your product that is missing support.....it's your problem to solve.

From a user percspective, if you can't provide a capability I want, I'll buy from the vendor who can supply it.

Support is present in the HDHomeRun app and has been for months. We have contacted Amazon multiple times to request that they flip the switch to enable it on their side, which is required for that support to be exposed. They have not given us any kind of useful response as to a timeframe for when it might happen, or a reason why it won't happen, or any changes needed on our side to make it happen. We are stuck until Amazon decides otherwise. Welcome to dealing with Amazon.

You don't seem to understand.....as a user I don't care about any of that, except for maybe noting that for whatever reason Amazon doesn't appear to want to work with you.

Having settled on Amazon for my viewing devices, I'm already mad at the removal of DRM support which I believe will never come back on Amazon devices. Time to look at other solutions.
