Auto generate a M3u playlist after channel scan.

Post by booji » Wed Feb 20, 2019 12:32 pm

I have a chromebook and currently is does not work with the HDhomerun viewing software. As a workaround I created a m3u of all the scanned channels and put them into VLC and it works a treat. I created the list by copying the channel list from the http front-end of my quatro into a spreadsheet, doing a few tweaks to turn the data into m3u format , then exporting it. Then I got to think, wouldn't it be good if the frontend actually generated it's own m3u playlist and stored it in the http interface. IP players, like perfect player, could just import the most recent m3u list from the link.

Is there any reason you would consider adding this feature in any future firmware releases?

I'd guess it's not super likely in the near future. Would require dedicating resources to a feature that very few people have expressed interest in.

Plus the entire list is already accessible via API. You could consider asking the people making the player about intelligently importing the list already.

Should't and android app work on the latest generation of chromebooks? Silicondust does make the android app---correct?

Most of today's chromebooks will work at least partially with the modern tuners and most software without any list needed... one issue is that they sandbox apps that prevent the usual broadcast discovery methods from working. As far as the tuners go, for SD's app, they should be discovered from the app by falling back to upnp (dlna). The recording engine usually is not discovered as the broadcast discovery does not work. At some point the engine may also be dlna compatible and then it too can rely on an "approved" (working) discovery method with the chromebooks that don't usually work with the DVR.

For the few people that need a playlist, it is easy enough to generate one by parsing the lineup.json
