I don't understand the question as currently the engine already can use any available tuner that has the channel... you may have to be more specific.

If you want to record Cbs and the SD software prioritizes the connect first, nothing will record or will the Servio record from the connect?

So far there are no such priorities... the tuner has the channel or it doesn't and the engine can use any tuner that has the channel there is no way to prioritize between tuners if they have the same channel number (current way in selecting is HD will be favored over SD. OTA would be favored over cable. Marking a channel as a favorite will override such but not specify tuner only that such a channel number is a favorite.

The Servio is just an engine (think of it as a nas "dedicated" to DVR)... it needs to use an external tuner. The scribe has integrated tuners but it is "still" an engine (and based on what they said when it was "called" the Duo+ when announced last year, will still discover other tuners).

The way the engine works is every hour it checks for the devices on your network by sending out a broadcast discovery request. The response of this returns the <ip-of-tuner>/discover.json. One of the things it gets from the discover.json is the DeviceAuth in which it then uses to contact SD to retrieve the rules for the next 4 hours. Also in this is the LineupURL (typically <ip-of-tuner>/lineup.json) which returns all available channels from a device (except those "disabled" ) So if CBS is channel 5.1 (and if you have cable either 5 or 1005). The rules in the cloud state what channel to try and record from at what time (and provides the other metadata). If you have a mixed system like I do it presents all channels the show is on In my example it will state to record on 5.1, 5, and 1005 and recently because of tower work I have 1005 as a favorite and as a result it will do that first so it checks to see what devices has 1005, and can record from any of them. It then moves down to the request for 5.1, now according to the logs, it actually begins to try and record this but it sees it is already recording such so it does not process that request, next it moves to 5, and the same thing...

Ok the Servio storage is more of a NAS, it's not dedicated to the Servio tuners

There are no servio tuners... the scribe has tuners

If the question is whether a Scribe Duo will prioritize its own tuners over an also connected Connect Duo, I believe the answer is yes, to maximize available bandwidth. Still, main development for the Scribe and Servio right now is on the software side of things, so we'll have to wait until we're nearer launch for a definitive answer.

I agree a lot of it is on software... in another thread nickk implied 2 scribes would load balance with his answer that 2 scribes would provide 4 tuners and 2TB... the way the engine works now, if there were a recording at 8pm on channel 5, both would record it as every engine gets every rule. Even if one were to have half the channels disabled on one and enabled on the other, the first would try to utilize the second if it didn't have the channel.

One thing I would love to see on the servio is 2-4 "virtual" tuners of Premium TV.
