ces 2019

Postby techpro2004 » Mon Dec 03, 2018 6:24 pm

Is there any chance we can get a preview of what to expect at ces 2019? I am hoping for a ces release of the prime 6.

So, just to be clear, you want a company to not make their big splash announcement at CES proper, but to give you a private preview in advance without any agreed upon NDAs and publishing embargos?

Instead, perhaps go visit Suite 30-336 in the Venetian Tower (it is a corner room, so the views might be nicer than some of their neighbors).

I was thinking more along the lines of a teaser rather then the whole thing. That way, I would know to get excited or not.

Also, Las Vegas is quite the trip for me.

How about a Apple TV app, and while at it, a solution for Roku too.

When the ATSC 3.0 products come out, if SiliconDust doesn't support Apple TV or Roku without 3rd party apps, I'll be moving to a different vendor.

The Apple TV app would have to be awfully darn good to compete with Channels as that app works smooth as silk and has a grid guide as well.

Can't control the HDHR DVR from the Channels app though.

Channels has its own DVR engine, the only thing you need is the SD hardware.

i was disappointed that the first news from SD out of CES was about yet another piece of hardware - other than the HDHomeRun 6

The Servio and the Scribe are not needed. Maybe they are from the new non-technical customers they have been getting recently and in the future, but for those of us who are already here and understands technology, we want other things. Most of us have a NAS, or running DVR off a computer. The Servio seems like it could be built by one of us with a 2TB external HD duct taped to a RaspberryPi. Here is what I was hoping for from SD at CES this year.

1. Prime 6 available
2. DRM on FireTV
3. DRM recording
4. Incorporating HDHomerun Tuners on FireTV's guide (much like Live Channels on AndroidTV)
5. Improved UI with updated DVR features. (get rid of the green color)
6. An additional traditional guide. (give is a choice of Slice, Traditional, and the On Now Posters.)
7. The ability to incorporate other services into SD's software. (IE view PlutoTV's lineup in the guide (or others we cannot name here), doesn't have to be able to record)

SD must now hold the industry wide crown for the most 'announced but not available' hardware and software. Too many to easily list. Such a shame... :(

One can only conclude based on their incredible lack of transparency that DRM recordability is never coming.

Do the math create a 6 Tuner Cable card tuner one time charge of 199 or Premium TV $25 dollars a month for as long as you subscribe plus the purchase of a Quatro.
