not soon???

Postby techpro2004 » Fri Oct 05, 2018 1:47 pm

Silicondust put up a web page saying the 6 tuner prime was "coming soon" almost a month ago. To me "soon" means a week maybe 2. I am going out on a limb here but I think that web page was incorrect. Silicondust, what is your definition of soon?

nate: I am not clogging up the boards, the previous thread created on 9/12/18 showed hope. This one shows lack there of.

I just stumbled across this web site here (https://www.seair.co.in/us-import/i-silicondust.aspx). The 08-jun-2018 shipment looks like it has less items in it. If I were releasing a new product, I would order less from the manufacturer to start. Is this what you are doing?

These threads are the digital equivalent of "Are we there yet?" from kids on a road trip.

True. Except, SD has stated that DRM recording will be available in a software update that will be released with the new Primes. And DRM recording support was included as a goal in the initial Kickstarter/announcement of the DVR software. So, a timeline for the new Primes not only would give users wanting new hardware some guidance (since they've discontinued the existing 3 tuner Prime), but also those who have been waiting for over 3 years for SD to finally deliver DRM recording support ...

I'm a kickstarter backer. I am well aware of what's been promised.

I am referring only to this specific user posing a new thread on a nearly weekly basis asking for an update on the 6 tuner prime. It was meant as a joke. Previous threads were merged, so I was amused at the justification for yet another new thread.

Nickk, That is very upsetting news seeing as how it was promised for mid year and how you have a web page saying "coming soon". Is it expected to enter production soon or should I give up waiting? Thanks.

Although not the news that many of us Prime (& potential Prime) users wanted to hear, I applaud @nickk and SD for informing us of current status. IMO, these type of updates are welcome...in order to make plans for the short term future.

Maybe that's how they pick up new Premium TV users!
One of mine died about 9 months ago and the other is almost as old so I hope it lasts.

Premium TV is not an option for my household with the lineup they offer... if my Primes were to die I would have to go the ROKU Streaming Cable route or bite the bullet and go with XFINITY DVR. … until Primes are released.

Wow, just wow. The 6 tuner is not in production and 3 tuner is no longer available.

So if my hardware dies, I'm not SOL and will have to move to another solution. If that happens, guess what? I'm never coming back.

This is a case study on how to steal defeat from the jaws of victory.

Nice bait and switch bait us with the 6 tuner switch to PremiumTV.

They're either clueless when it comes to business or they're only willing to commit to the 6-tuner Prime dependent on approval of recordable protected content. Otherwise, why tie the release of the hardware to that feature? Why would you let your supply chain dry up something you you keep telling us is still a priority and a key product? Really sounds to me like if they don't get approval, they're going to exit this space and push their PremiumTV.

They realized they were late to the game in a changing space and decided to bail.

Something really doesn't smell right here.
