4k = HEVC

The 4k streams we are seeing on ATSC 3 are around 16Mbps.

If cable is higher bitrate then figure 4 streams of 4k content.

Nick
That low vs in Boise, ID which is 40Mbps

That is what I am afraid of. I don't know how much more it would be to swap out a 100Mbps for 1000Mbps ethernet port but I am sure people would willing eat the added cost.

Plus you can advertise Watch or Record 6 4k channels at one time

It's highly unlikely that cable providers will launch linear 4K channels in the first place, so this discussion is kind of pointless. They're going to follow in the footsteps of Comcast and deliver them via VOD/IPTV, which won't be available to CableCARD devices anyway. This is both because no cable provider has 150Mb/s of spare bandwidth to devote to 4K, and because it gives them the ability to require you to rent their most expensive box to get 4K.

That also true I don't think we see it past 1080p either when come to linear as our local cable has just get away from older Motorola DCT 700 all Digital SD 480p box and have supposedly have been update to newer 1080p HDMI all digital box don't which model I don't.

They have clearly stated this several times over the holiday period.
Stated what? Link?

Well, FiOS could, to a point (since they use a dedicated service stream), but it looks pretty clear VZ is positioning themselves to get out of the linear TV market entirely (they now advertise, and at least some reps seem to promote, YTTV). So yeah, 4K over linear QAM is not a way forward for anyone, so it is just an academic discussion at this point.
