HDVR-4K-1TB?

Post by signcarver »

a few months ago nickk had mentioned such should be available in March and was curious how that was coming along as I am thinking about getting another "4k" unit in the coming month and thought I might wish for that one. Also would their be a DEV unit/upgrade available?.

Hi, I emailed the company privately a week ago asking about this "new" model as well. I have received no response at all. It is highly understandable, especially under the current climate, for there to be delays. But I was a little surprised to get nothing at all.

Because of this product, I am considering becoming a new customer. I can tell from reading these forums and the solid user base here that this is a good company. I know and expect that SiliconDust will take the time to get it right, rather than rush the product out the door. I know there are audio issues, etc.

So I can totally wait, but any updates would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Also, Nickk, will this unit's storage be expandable, i.e, WD, Toshiba or Seagate USB 3.0 portable hard drives? Specifications please, TIA

Did the name change or is flex something else (based on changelog announcement) ... are we really going to have to wait until Monday for the announcemen(based on tweet)? FLEX has been a name for offerings from both Comcast and dish so I might guess it's ptv 2.0.

No, Flex is a new product. 4 tuner (2 ATSC 3.0) with USB. As shown on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/SiliconDust-HDHo ... B092GCN9NL

Changelog mentioned the FLEX so I decided to order one as an external drive seems better than limited capacity of internal (7mm doesn't offer much). Interesting the flex is said to be here Monday but if I ordered a 4K it would be Wednesday... we will see.

Nick will have more details soon (soft laugh, the confetti will come later ;) ). A natural evolution for the product, FLEX replaces CONNECT. Basically, we like the idea of having a tuner-only version (brings down the cost), but we really like letting people add DVR easily.

SCRIBE will still be around, because some people really like the clean setup of everything being in one box, but a lot of people will like FLEX because any FLEX tuner can become a "SCRIBE" by adding a USB HDD. This allows people to have a SCRIBE-like setup without having to commit from the get-go, and also makes it much easier to upgrade (no screws to undo), etc.

It also has a beefier power supply to help support more portable USB drives. Nick will have more specific specs soon, but from what I understand, most USB-A portable drives that work without their own power supply should, in theory, work on the FLEX without having to use external power. Of course, you can also connect a larger 3.5-based hard drive, so long as it has its own power supply.

Other than adding the USB port for DVR, it's the same as the CONNECT line. There will be a DUO with 2x ATSC 1.0, and the 4K (2x ATSC 3.0/1.0, 2x ATSC 1.0).

At this time the USB port is only used for our HDHomeRun DVR service.

Will it work with more than one HDD on a USB hub? Will a HDD attached to the FLEX need to be formatted to XFS?

One hard drive. The HDHomeRun FLEX will format it XFS.

I would assume it would be similar to scribe/servio to use config to format if not blank... any additional options/restrictions of drive as a few may wish multiple partitions for some things

Also will a DEV upgrade be available as mine is supposed to come today (assuming amazon listing is correct) and am on the fence as to whether or not I would like to add such (I really do like some of the features of my existing 4K but at the same time there have been occasions that I would like to see how a "normal" unit behaves).

If the MBR is all zeros the FLEX will format it automatically.

If the drive contains data but first partition isn't XFS there will be a format button shown on the device webpage.

Does Flex have software to utilize any USB HDD or will I need a NAS to record programming?
