Buffering - Zorg

Postby Zorg » Thu Nov 15, 2018 9:01 am

Everything is running clean. If you are still seeing a problem it suggests a problem through your ISP. If you turn on "send diagnostic information" on the HDHomeRun itself I can check.

Nick
"send diagnostic information" has been enabled on mine for 2 days; 1062ACEC and 1073B7BA. Channels was cycling through tuners trying to lock onto signals so both were affected. It was intermittent last night. Really bad when I posted around primetime, but better later. Usually I'm viewing via Channels on an ATV 4k, so there is an extra layer involved. But I observed the same behavior using the native SD app on my Android TV.

The family got fed up with it so we just went to Netflix & Amazon Prime for the evening. Zero issues there watching 4k HDR that needs 5x the bandwidth of HDP.

Split to a new thread so I can help directly.

The log from the HDHomeRun shows significant problems fetching video at times.

When things are happy it is taking ~0.25s to fetch 6s of video.
A short while later in the log things were unhappy - taking up to 30s to fetch 6s of video.

Continuing to research.

Woo hoo, my own thread! :)

Thank you for looking into it and glad you're seeing info from the HDHR's. I appreciate it. I've observed stuttering maybe a dozen times in the past 3 months prior to this. A blip or two during Monday Night football or something - and not a big deal. Then these past couple of nights it's across the board and annoying enough that it's unwatchable.

If it helps, my ISP is Mediacom. Speed and reliability are generally good. I'm on a 200/20 tier and almost always see 175-225 down, including the past few nights. No other issues observed with bandwidth or other streaming services while HDP was having issues. Non-HDP content coming in via OTA or QAM to the same HDHR's was fine.

Happening again tonight. This is becoming all too common. Trying to watch MNF, but all channels seem affected. It’s unwatchable. ISP Speed report is 225/28 Mbps right now. Diagnostics enabled.

Same here. Lots of constant buffering on MNF ESPN. Prime TV is not watchable. Buffers so much, no sound is audible.

I've been watching ESPN since the pregame and haven't noticed any issues. Only channel I've tried though.

Epic MNF game. Too bad I had to re-subscribe to YouTubeTV to watch any of it
