Spectrum - Columbus OH

Post by emg60060 »

Channel 33/309/1309 - HDHR = Shogun Fights (should be MLB Reds at Cubs)
Channel 310/1310 - HDHR = Sign Off (should be Shogun Fights)

Are the channels correct for their channel name, but the programming is off? If it's just the programming, how often is it incorrect? Always, or just occasionally?

Its usually wrong when sports are on. For example, its correct now, but at 8pm 1309 should have the Reds-Cardinals game, but instead has Roland-Garros Tennis, which Spectrum lists on 1310. It seems to be due to the regional nature of the Ballys Sports (Formerly Fox Sports OH channels). The other Ballys channel (1308) appears correct, at least today.

Bally Sports Ohio is very complicated because they have multiple feeds/zones where different teams get priority, others get shifted to the "Plus" channel, and some aren't shown at all.

The lineup that Zap2it/Gracenote has for Spectrum Columbus is incorrectly listing the Cleveland (Zone 1) feeds, which doesn't contain any Cincinnati Reds games. Columbus area cable providers should have the Zone 3 feeds:
BSOH3 (16177) and BSOH3HD (68658) for the main channel (33/309/1309)
BSOH3A (91113) and BSOH3AH (91114) for the Plus/Alternate feed (310/1310)

308/1308 is a seperate channel called Bally Sports Great Lakes, which is the former Sports Time Ohio. That just has one feed for all of Cleveland Indians territory.

It really isn't that complicated, it's just that the person at Spectrum Ohio who is responsible for providing the correct channel lineup to Gracenote is dumber than a sack of shit. I fought this battle and lost back in the FS Ohio days because they refused to understand, no matter how much it was dumbed down, that Cleveland and Columbus are different cities with different teams and get different games and therefore need different listings. Complicating things was that every Spectrum system in Ohio used the same channel identifier for FS Ohio, so the way SD maps channel data means that they have to rely on the listing that Gracenote uses in that area, so if Gracenote is wrong, there's no way to override it without breaking the entire rest of the state. Gracenote has all the correct listings available, but they cannot put the correct listings on the lineup unless the cable provider confirms, even when the internal name for the channel is like "Bally Sports Ohio (Columbus)" and the channel lineup/ZIP code is in Columbus. You might try complaining to Bally Sports and seeing if you can get up the chain high enough to get someone there to contact Gracenote.
