Channel lineup is a mess

Post by drmargarit » Fri Jan 03, 2020 5:06 pm

Why is the channel lineup info such a mess? Some channel are listed by callsign, and some are listed by affiliate.
Example:
7.1 KVIA DT
7.2 CW (instead of KVIA DT2)

In Addition, callsigns are in random formats.
I have entries like:
KVIADT
KVIA-DT
KVIA DT

It's a nuisance when you are trying to link HDHR channels to Schedules Direct channels.
I'm guessing that this sloppiness is forced on you by broadcasters...

Checking, is this via the xmltv API?

The XMLTV API returns entries for the guide name from Gracenote, the virtual channel name from the broadcaster, and the affiliate from Gracenote.

KVIADT will be the Gracenote name.
KVIA-DT or KVIA DT will be the name the broadcaster is using.

We provide both so you can match whichever way.

In practice we recommend matching by virtual channel number and using the first name (or the first name with a virtual channel number - that will be the same name)
