An unplayable channel on LG TV HDHR app

Post by sdust »

A channel can not be played on LG HDHR app. Same channel plays fine on Mac.

EDIT: I just realized the channel is in your backyard: 60-4 from Sutro tower PJK604

Let me know what you find ;)

Can somebody tell me what options do I need to use to produce recording?

I'd first check if the channel you have problem with is DRM protected or not if you are using Prime tuner.

That's not it. debug=true or something like this is missing.

CONNECT 4K so no worries.

That channel looks to be in San Francisco. We are in Arizona.

To make a 30s capture: http://hdhomerun.local:5004/auto/v60.4?duration=30

Edit - fixed URL

Just duration=, no debug=?

URL needs port 5004 ;)

There is no PCR PID specified in the stream.

Can you please do a full mux capture so I can check the raw broadcast: http://10813750.local:5004/auto/ch551000000?duration=30

Ok, the video track has PCR data however the PMT in the original broadcast doesn't indicate that the PCR is on the video PID. This is a fault in the broadcast.

Figure some players will play the channel ok, so will fail to play.

I am guessing this is something you guys want to handle? It is a bigger flop than an incorrect aspect ratio.

Some players include Silicon Dust's own LG player. Why is PCR PID 0x0000 treated in such a special way?

It's not that it's treated in a special way, it's that it's set to the wrong value for that subchannel. PIDs point to specific data inside the transport stream of an ATSC 1.0 signal, and 0x0000 is the PID for the Program Association Table. The PCR is the Program Clock Reference which is part of the MPEG-2 transport stream used to keep the audio and video streams in sync, so for this subchannel it should be set to the value of the video stream, which is 0x0061. Certain brands of TVs and DVRs are more sensitive to this value being correct because they use it to keep the audio and video in sync when latency is caused by things like AVRs or post-processing.

Try contacting one of the engineers listed on their staff page like Ken Higgins, Gerry Pacitti, Larry Stratton or Mike Roberts:

Shouldn't the tuner diagnose such obvious problems in the mux structure and at least throw an error in the logs? I suspect the issue is more widespread. We don't need to involve an army of people in order to figure out a PID was not assigned a correct value.

Our cross-platform demuxer / low level client player code can handle this without issue - Win10, Win7/8, Mac, iOS, Android, XBox, AppleTV.

LG and Roku don't allow running native code and provider the player themselves. It depends on how they coded things.

I think I have only seen this issue maybe once or twice in 15 years of HDHomeRun... we will talk to the station and hopefully they will fix it quickly.
