Wasync excessive lag & Failed Recording (Bob's Burgers)

Post by Jsherman »

Bob's Burgers failed to record properly for me on Sunday. While looking through the logs, I find this error " wasync excessive lag", but I could not find any information on it. Sample from error log below. What does this mean?

FYI - Diagnostic Logs have been enabled for Device ID 1080CB62.

Combined with the other details it means writing to disk was blocked for an excessive amount of time.

Overall disk bandwidth is good and it recovered so it is not that the disk can't keep up.

Possible causes that come to mind...

Could the PC have been doing something at the time that completely maxed out access to this drive?

If the interface controller got wedged and was reset (SATA or USB depending on how the drive is connected) that could cause a delay. If the drive is USB was anything USB connected or unplugged around that time?

Drive going into power save mode and spinning down. It takes a while for a disk to spin back up (especially a 3.5" disk). This shouldn't happen when the disk is being used.

Drive with bad sectors and something trying to read them. This will cause the disk to be unresponsive while it tries to read the bad sectors.

The PC was doing a few tasks, recording two shows possibly at the time (Great North and Bob's Burgers) or possibly running MCEBuddy on the Great North. One show playing from a Plex Server to an outside source. I tried to re-create the same situation and it did not seem to peak.

The drive it is running on is connected to SATA internally.

The power settings on all the drives are set to never sleep.

Bad drive possible. I feared that could be the case. I have updated my drivers for the motherboard and SATA to see if the issue gets resolved.

I should also note, this is on a new AMD 3700X build with 16GB ram.

I noticed this error popping up again last night when I tried to record "60 Minutes". Would there be any chance this could be related to networking? I ask this because I am running a dual Intel Pro/1000 (on the same card) in teaming mode to get a 2GB connection. I paired the two with Intel's teaming software.
