Update: The stuttering appears to have gone away for me now. I enabled AC3 passthrough and early access to new features, not sure if either setting is related or not.

Edit. Nope, still there.

Using CNBC's stock ticker for testing, I'd say the new app didn't make much difference than the old one for me. The ticker stutter is still the same as before.

Is the new version on the Beta release or stable release on the Android Play Store?

The new release maintains perfect interpolated timestamps across all audio and video processing.

What client device?

Is the stutter more of a low frame rate or occasional slight pause? If the client device is having to so software decode it may be dropping to 29.97fps.

If you play a recording do you experience the same thing? With live TV the frame rate has to be adjusted to match the broadcaster which will be slightly different to the frame rate of the local device (both are 59.94 frames per second but the broadcaster and the client device have different concepts of how long a second is).

Android TV(any device) and Windows 10 (less obvious). On Android TV, the ticker stutter every 4 to 5 seconds. However, playing recorded show on the same channel does not suffer from this stuttering. CNBC is 1080i.

One double frame or a single missed frame every 3 to 4 seconds is due to the framerate from the broadcaster (59.94fps) not exactly matching the frame of the GPU (also 59.94fps but a different definition of how long a second is).

We can do the correction less often but we have to do a correction at some point. (if a local second is longer we can avoid the correction for a long time but you will get more and more behind real time)

I am also seeing this stuttering every 5 seconds as well. 2019 Nvidia shield Pro running the May 14th stable release

I prefer being behind real time, but not having a stutter every 5 seconds. Watchability ranks above all, including real time for me.

Nickk, you mentioned before that the issue could be caused by the client's implementation of software decoding. But my understanding is that the Nvidia Shield uses hardware decoding. Maybe an option to toggle the decoding between hardware and software in the settings menu may be a good idea?

I agree being behind real time as well. Is there a reason why the Beta Tuner on Live Channels doesn't have this issue?

Updated, same problem. Watching soccer, everyone pauses every 10 seconds or so. Other content gets really messy too.

I uninstalled and side loaded 20210227, everything runs fine. Need to figure out how to keep auto updates off, since I know something happened when it started stuttering again.

Are you sure you were running 20210512 or 20210513? you can check the app version from the app settings menu.

Double this. On Nvidia Shield 2017, the Beta Tuner source is frame-perfect. I've always been having stutters since I use the HDHR source in Live Channels app (and in HDHR app directly too).

EU tuner : 50 Hz broadcasting (of course, refresh rate is set on 50 Hz too on the Shield).
