Video stops regularly

I am using the HD HomeRun Quad tuner. Had been working fine for about a month. Now, when watching on Roku Premier, the picture comes on, looks good, plays for a while, then the screen goes back to the channel listing along the bottom of the screen and I can select a channel. It repeats. If I watch on the cell phone, it works fine. What am I missing?

Roku, one of the worst options for using HDHR app. The Roku playback engine that all apps must use is very buggy and can't tolerate any imperfection of video stream.

Looks that way, oddly enough, I was having trouble with my chromecast so SiliconDust recommended the Roku. Not sure what the h is going on, but someone needs to get this fixed because it makes both companies look terrible.

I think SD already asked Roku to fix it years ago and nothing happened.

Yeah the problem is Roku's built in decoder can't handle any imperfections, which is something that happens with most OTA signals, especially on windy days or if you are in marginal reception area where the signal is just above the threshold to decode. On actual TVs error correction would kick in and would just have some minor macroblocking or pixelation, while on Rokus the decoder just crashes. And because of Roku's policy requiring all 3rd party developers to only use their built in player, they can't ship an alternate FFmpeg based decoder that's better at handling imperfect signals like they can do on iOS and Android.

I am having the same problems with the playback stopping in the Android player on a relatively new phone (Moto G7 power).

This was happening on my Roku. I switched to Amazon Firestick and then Apple TV. Keeps happening. I think I will go back to Tablo. Tablo never did this.

If you are seeing an issue on the Fire TV stick and/or Apple TV, then it is a different issue than what is being described here.

We would like to get some diagnostic data:
  1. Please go to the http://my.hdhomerun.com/ site
  2. Click your HDHomeRun's device ID
  3. If it tells you that a firmware update is available, please install it
  4. Click System Status
  5. Check the Send diagnostic information box
  6. Go back one page
  7. Click Channel Lineup
  8. Click on Detect Channels

Reply back to this post and provide us the device ID of your HDHomeRun and we will check the logs. You can find the device ID at the top of the my.hdhomerun.com web page as well as on a label on the bottom of the HDHomeRun itself.
