FIOS 4k viewing with win10 app colors washed out

There are (2) 4k channels found using my HDHR-prime cable tuner (1498 Fios 4k1 & 1499 Fios 4k2)
Using the win10 HD HomeRun app version 20201029, the 4k channels are completely washed out (i.e. green grass on the football field is light yellow)
Using the LG app on my E7 OLED TV, the picture is perfect, with vivid colors in HLG - HDR, very impressive.

Is there something I need to configure and or install on the PC to get 4k content to display correctly in the HD HomeRun app? Or since the laptop only has a 1080p display, I won't get a proper picture with a 4k data stream? I know I can't actually display 4k since the display is only 1080p, but I was hoping to get downscaled 1080p in HDR. Maybe I don't have the proper codecs installed or it's not even possible to downscale to 1080p HDR?

  Nvidia Geforce 940M graphics card
  i7 6500U @2.5GHz
  16g RAM
  1080p screen

This seems to be a bug in Windows 10 itself.

We emailed Microsoft on this a while back - I will follow up.

Those 4k channels deliver HLG 4K video. And it is expected to have Windows HDR turned on for it display correctly. However, like Nick said above, that's probably a bug with a 1080p screen. I think Windows should also handle the situation even for 4K screen without HDR turned on (or even capable of HDR due to either screen or video card).

Anyway HDR on Windows has always been a joke/after thought. I also turn it off even if both my video card and 4K TV can support it because I can't stand the always on HDR for desktop.

I don't know, I watch 4k HDR movies on my win7 PC, nvidia GTX1060 using potplayer/madvr/lav on a LG OLED TV with great results. The desktop goes back to non-HDR when exiting potplayer. But I know what you mean about a HDR desktop, because sometime it gets stuck in HDR when going back to the desktop after watching a movie and it looks terrible.

Thanks Nick, for now, I'll just use the LG app since that looks extraordinary, though sometimes I see pixelation, I don't know if it's the FIOS stream or LG app.

You are dependent on MadVR to do that automatic HDR switching. HLG is another rare form of the HDR. Windows will translate it into normal HDR for display. For DRM purposes, HDHR app will use Windows' built in video pipeline for video playback, not going through MadVR stuff. However, you can record the show and play the resulting MPG file with your preferred video player and see what happens. If you don't have DVR subscription, you can still manually save a clip from the 4K channel. Instructions can be found in FAQ section.

I looked thought the FAQ section to try to find out how to manually record a clip without a DVR subscription but couldn't find those instructions. Could you help by providing the link so I can experiment with the FIOS 4k channels? Thanks...
