Kodi's a little weird about files. The easiest way to install from a zip file is to first go into the Kodi settings, then the File Manager and add a "file source" like a video source, choosing a location that is easy to access. Then put the zip file in that location, and you can access it from the "Install from Zip" option for installing add-ons.

This sounds like the exact same problem I'm having. And I had the exact same problem trying to load that github zip file -- it wouldn't load.

There seems to be a growing problem with Kodi 18 Leia and HTTP/2 enabled sites. People are also having problems with sites like The Movie Database wherein movie posters and info cannot be loaded with the same underlying cURL error (56). My guess is that SD recently enabled HTTP/2 for the backend server(s) and Kodi can't handle it. Unfortunately this seems like a Kodi problem that needs to be solved as opposed to a backend problem; there is no reason to believe that SD's server(s) are in error -- Kodi 18 Leia is eight releases behind current on it's cURL library code.

For example, on a Vero 4K device which has an even more outdated cURL binary on it, the error can be replicated if HTTP/2 is enabled, but works fine otherwise:

HTTP/2 enabled (fails):

Code: Select all

~$ curl --http2 http://img.hdhomerun.com/channels/US19611.png -o test.jpg
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
  0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 0
curl: (56) Recv failure: Connection reset by peer
HTTP/2 not enabled (works):

Code: Select all

curl http://img.hdhomerun.com/channels/US19611.png -o test.jpg
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
100 4707 100 4707 0 0 55937 0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 56710
