HELP! MiBox 3 US Updated Android 9 ... Wrecked
Re: HELP! MiBox 3 US Updated Android 9 ... Wrecked
I have four Mi Box 4's using Live channels with two HD Homerun Primes and they all work fine together. If I missed it in the thread I apologize, but I did have an issue after an OS upgrade on the Mi Box initially. I downloaded the HD Homerun android app, then I cleared the cache on Live Channels and had it find the HD Homerun Prime tuners and set everything up again. It's been working since then. When I use Live Channels, it shows the HD icon along with the channel number now.

The problem with MPEG2 issue may not affect all cable providers. And if you are on Comcast, you probably will never encounter it as Comcast use H.264 codec instead.
What is MiBox 4? I only know two office Mi Boxes in US: Mi Box 3 and MiBox S. Mi Box 4 never officially released in US.

My MiBox 3 is still totally useless. I guess that blacklist thing from Ned is not to be.
Re: HELP! MiBox 3 US Updated Android 9 ... Wrecked
It's a difficult decision because it is only affecting some MPEG2 content and not others. Forcing software decoding will decrease deinterlacing quality, so there's a tradeoff. Ive been whispering in the boss's ear that we should put in a switch that the user can set, but he has some concerns about that as well. I'll bring it up again and see what he says.Thunderthud wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 1:56 pm My MiBox 3 is still totally useless. I guess that blacklist thing from Ned is not to be.

I would love to see a fix no matter how klugey. I have three MiBox 3s, and since the update to the operating system, some channels pixellate/don't interlace and others are fine when in use with the HDHR feed. I also have one MiBox S; it had no problems with the system update.

I second that! Would really like to be able to use this box again.

thank god i only updated one box before running into this. the DVR box is still running fine but my bedroom tv can't use fox11 or abc7 (los angeles area) any more. i'm really not hopeful mibox will give us a fix so if there is something you guys can do like a user facing switch that fixes it like discussed earlier, it would be appreciated.

also thank you for this workaround. the channels are usable again now. didn't really want to download another app but hey whatever.gaitch32 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 1:39 pmThe setting in Kodi is in Settings/Player/Video. Make sure that your setting level is at least Expert at the bottom then you should see them near the bottom of the list on the right. I got this working on mine and it seems to have solved the problem.Thunderthud wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 10:38 amWhere in Kodi is this setting? Have hdhr addon installed. Can't find. Thanks!john262 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 10:18 am I have one Mibox 3 and two Mibox 4's. I was having the same problems as documented in this thread on all three boxes. However, I find that I can get it to work using the HDHomerun Kodi PVR client. I had to disable hardware acceleration in the Kodi settings. It is kind of a pain because some of my other Kodi addons require hardware acceleration so I have to keep turning it back on to use those addons then back off again to use the PVR client. But it does work.
I am disappointed that I have to go this way because I never even used the HDHR app, just Live Channels, with version 8 and had no problems.
edit: wait i just realized only abc and fox work this way on kodi. everything else plays in like slow motion LMAO. so i have to use regular hdhomerun app for cbs/nbc and kodi for abc/fox.

apparently the newer mibox (S) was updated to build 3139 less than 2 weeks ago and according to one comment, this actually fixes our problem. i have the older one (mibox 3) but it should be updated soon after. everyone stay tuned.

I don't think that's the same problem:
1. The problem he refereed to is from DVB-T which usually is H.264 encoded IIRC.
2. He mentioned VLC works fine with the problem stream which seems to me that it is not a driver issue.
But who knows. All I know is that XiaoMi never even bother to test MPEG2 playbacks. So, there is no hope that they will ever fix it unless the chipset maker actually fixed it.
