closed captions appear after unmuting

Post by zrrifle »

I own a Scribe Duo. About 80% of the time, after muting the sound with my remote (which seems to automatically turn on the closed captions), when I unmute the closed captions stay on and I have to manually turn it off in the HD Homerun screen. I did already put in a ticket several months ago and was told by tech support they suspect the HD app is getting confused due to using a sound bar. They were going to pass it onto the development team but as of yet no fix. I did notice using the sound bar via optical/A3 fixes this (vice HDMI), but delays the audio and sporadically has silence, so HDMI is the best option. The only other 'fix' is to lower the volume all the way down instead of using the mute button.

I have tried all the other 3rd party software viewing apps but they seem to present their own problems or don't work well with the Scribe. So the HD Homerun app works best for me.

Just wondering if anyone else has this issue and/or what they've done to remedy it. Thanks.

I see this too on Android TV - HDMI/Arc with a Soundbar. I just seems to lose track of CC status. No problem on Win10/XBox.

I had Android with my last OTA DVR and never had this issue, only the HD Homerun unfortunately.

I've been testing with just using the volume buttons to mute/unmute, but I will find a device with a dedicated mute button and see if CC gets messed up there.

One may also wish to check the device's settings as sometimes the device is set to display cc and it may pick up that setting when you unmute.

It tends to move there on it's own randomly (the CC button) as it's already blue when I open up the menu. I'll click on the blue CC button to turn it off and have even tried moving over a couple of icons before closing out the menu display, but to no avail - most of the time it'll just find it's way back to the CC button and be blue (on) most of the time. Very strange.

Even more reason to check device settings as I have never seen any indication of on/off... blue indicates where you are not the status

Wish I could take a screenshot, Maybe Silicondust made a change to the interface with the Scribe? Just guessing, because whatever icon I maneuver to turns blue and every other icon on the screen is white.

correct... that does not indicate on or off... blue indicates where you are.

strange it moves there on its own... seems like a remote is stuck and I believe they may have mapped some remotes CC button.

On my Shield the CC button stays blue when captions are turned on.

I only see it as blue when on the button whether on or off this is on shield, jetstream, tivo stream 4k, verizon stream tv and most of the time windows as it is the only platform I have a real enter key available and/or mouse as opposed to d-pad... mouse only shows me blue if that was the last item clicked/selected and it is on (isn't blue if off when bringing it up) if that wasn't last item it behaves as my android boxes and never blue. Enter seems to more often show blue as on or off but not always... clicking it off also makes it blue... Also on windows it is blue when on more consistently when access to early features aren't enabled... I only tried without early features enabled on my jetstream and it still didn't remain blue when on.

On my Win10 machine, the CC box stays blue when captions are on. ETA - It stays on until I go to the menus, but when I return to live TV, it's no longer blue even if the captions are still on.

signcarver - yes you are correct, it's blue when it's over that icon, not necessarily 'on.' Hopefully Silicon will come up with a fix soon.

leerandall - same here, watching it on the PC doesn't affect how the TV behaves.
