Choppy playback on PC

Post by cableguy187 »

I am experiencing choppy playback on Win 10 x64, i5 9600kf, 16GB ram RTX 2060oc in the official app. It will play smoothly in a small window but anything larger the playback is jittery and unwatchable.

I logged this with HD tech support and they had no solution.

I have other PC's and 2x Nvidia shields that are working ok so it seems to be something wierd with this PC.

Any ideas?

What screen resolution and refresh rate?

Have you tried a different AMD driver version?

2560x1440, 144hz.

It's an Nvidia RTX 2060oc with the latest drivers.

How exactly do you expect 60Hz video to play smoothly in 144Hz refresh rate? Have you tried 120Hz or 60Hz?

Not really helpful.

I have tried 60HZ and a 60HZ monitor as well.

As best we can tell, it's probably a GPU driver issue when it tries to hardware decode MPEG2 video.

Wouldn't that affect the app in any sized window? If I launch in a small window, it's fine.

If the window is expanded after a certain point, the delay and jittering begin.

I fixed it..

In the Windows Start menu, right click the HDHomerun app, select 'more' , 'app settings', 'reset'. Something must have been corrupt in the app settings.

A bit strange that an uninstall/reinstall didn't clear the settings?

Annnndd the problem is back with the latest GeForce driver (456.55). Resetting the app doesn't fix the choppy playback issue.

Driver 452.06 works fine after rolling back.

Thanks, glad I saw this before upgrading my nVidia drivers. Unfortunately that means delaying some security updates, oh well.

Just an FYI - I'm currently running the 456.55 driver on my Win10 machine along with the HDHR app, and my video is smooth.
