Bad recording - the Voice - 5/4

Post by Thunderthud »

This is the second time I've had this problem. I assumed the first bad recording may have been a fluke and ignored it. It happened a few weeks ago.

This time it was this past Monday night, and as far as I know, all other recordings that night went okay.

The file length looks about right (6,849,857 bytes), but it goes glitchy after playing the first ten or so minutes, then jumps out of the recording and indicates as if the show had completed playing.

Tuners:
1322B8A6 prime, 13257C3D prime, 1041CFDB connect, 10514020 extend

Diagnostics is on in the HDHomerun setup program. Thanks!

I was in the middle of writing a reply about how weird that video file was, while it was still playing in the background, when it crashed my computer, lol. I'll let the devs know about this one for sure.

Third BAD recording.... Please help!

Post by Thunderthud »

This is the third bad recording in the last week.
Three different channels...
NBC "The Voice", Monday May 4th
CBS "Magnum PI", Friday May 8th,
FOX "911", Monday May 4th

Other recordings were okay from these networks on the same nights.
On Friday's "Magnum", another second episode followed directly after andrecorded okay. All of these recordings start out playing okay for a few minutes, then go crazy.

I had reported two of these in another post...
viewtopic.php?f=119&t=73615, and Ned had gotten back to me regarding the first one and had duplicated the problem.
I didn't receive any response when I added a link to the second recording.

I would appreciate an acknowledgement as to what the issue may be.
This is getting quite annoying, as I'm sure you might imagine.

Below are links to all three videos, copied to OneDrive...

911: https://1drv.ms/v/s!Asf_MVrLFgfYu898DYe ... w?e=MUECqY

Tuners:

Diagnostics is turned on...

We are looking into it. Nick is checking the file itself, and I'm going to go through the DVR logs to see if it reported any errors there.

I took a look at The Voice recording... the recording start off as H264 then switches to MPEG2 part way through.

My guess is that the recording started on the EXTEND, but stopped for some reason and the DVR resumed recording from the CONNECT.

The HDHomeRun app can't switch video codes mid playback so treats it like it reached the end of the recording.

1) We need to figure out why the recording was interrupted from the EXTEND.
2) We need to figure out a better way to handle the situation.

Nick

Nick, thanks for looking into this. Can I try turning off transcoding in the extend temporarily somehow?

You should be able to turn off transcoding used by the DVR by changing the "Default transcoding profile" in the EXTEND's web interface.

Thanks Ned. I've turned it off. We'll see what happens!
