Buying the DVR questions

Post by Mark2013 » Sun Mar 08, 2020 2:52 pm

Does the HDHRrun overide the Windows 10 sleep mode?

What format does the DVR record in? MP4 or M4P or by which mode by name?

Can I put a recording in .MTS on the storage and get the HDHR app to play it?

How do I tell the DVR where (on what drive?) to record?

They are MPEG Transport Streams (usually .ts, but I believe SD's DVR gives them .mpg extensions).

The codec is whatever the stream was originally sent in, usually MPEG-2 or MPEG-4.

the dvr engine is expected to be up 24/7 so whatever you use can't sleep (it only is aware of upcoming recordings that start within the next 4 hours or less as rules are in the cloud). If sleep is a concern, I suggest running the engine on a NAS not a pc). As mentioned the format is a mpeg TS with a .mpg extension. If you wish to add your own content the first 64 ts packets must contain the metadata to list the show name etc. Most clients properly support mpeg2, h.264 and hevc for video. When you set it up, and use that windows pc for recordings, you can tell it the path to record to (must be a locally attached drive, default is usually C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\HDHomeRun, and its probably best to make sure path specified exists and there aren't restrictions on what can write/access it)

1. Thank you.

2. I would like to have an Odroid-N2 (SBC) running CoreELEC and Kodi. With my ConnectDuo tuner, how can I get the SD software DVR to interact with it to record/watch TV? By the bye: I use a TV antenna.

The unofficial HDHomeRun PVR add-on for Kodi is pretty awesome:
