DRM Content Protection Shield Issue

Post by Eyedit » Sat Mar 07, 2020 10:29 am

Hey Folks
Yesterday on my Shield (original model) I received Content Protection flag on DRM channels.
I did all the usual attempts at resolving, uninstalled reinstalled app (ver20200217).
Updated Prime3 firmware, rescanned channel lineup power cycled everything to no avail.
I have Nexusplayer, win10, xbox, DNLA enabled TV and android phone apps all using recent version playing DRM without issue.
I forget the process for posting diagnostic information.
Anyone out there with some insight?
Thanks in advance,
Rich

Make sure your HDHR App has location permission. I have setup quite a few Android TV devices recently and this permission won't get added automatically. I always have to manually grant the location permission for the app, force stop the app before try again.

That was one of the things I checked.
After reinstall it was disabled but I did enable.

To enable diagnostic information on your Shield, go to HDHR app, press back button to bring out the recorded/task/settings UI. Click on the upper right gear icon to go to settings where you will find a check box for sending diagnostics.

Does that send info to Silicondust or is there a log now I have to access?

Hi,

Your shield failed Google's system integrity check.

Check that the device isn't rooted and that the boot loader is locked.

That sends info automatically to SD for a fixed period of time. As you can see, SD already got your info.

Thanks Nick
Is there a guide anywhere for that?
Do I have to set up ADB on a computer?

Did you ever root, or tried to root, the Shield? Did you try to unlock the bootloader? Did you ever flash a 3rd party firmware, or maybe a beta firmware? If you never did any of that, your Shield should stay certified.

Maybe the use of a Hotfix? I know that several apps(Disney+) will not work when an advanced/test firmware is used instead of the regular release on the Nvidia Shield.

Found fast boot instructions.
Not Rooted and bootloader already locked.
I am thinking system reset.
Oh well.

Digging into the logs more - it looks like something unlocked the boot loader causing the integrity check to fail.

No never rooted I did side load some apps.
Oddly enough on my Nexus Player because of SD's drm propblems back in the day I had to root to prevent Nexus from upgrading.
But the Nexus is working no problems and I left it unlocked. That was fun to figure out.

Factory reset won't affect bootloader status.
